I agree with this—Kovalev was heavy handed in a way that guys like Muhammad weren’t. And he had legit skills and knew how to use his length. At his best, in his prime, he’s a live dog in this one. I’d still expect Qawi to school him though.
Saad Muhammad's hardest punches might have been harder than Kovalev's because he really sold out and got maximum leverage on some of them (it's debatable imo), but I think Kovalev hit harder punch for punch. Extremely heavy-handed puncher with dangerous power; I've seen him hurt guys and put them in survival mode without even landing his Sunday punches.
Kov was indeed an extremely heavy handed guy... but would it mean nothing against Qawi. He isn't Nathan Cleverly or Jean Pascal.
Qawi will nullify the effectiveness of the Kovalev punching power. What does that leave Kovalev to go to in order to get his arm raised over a Dwight Qawi?
Kovalev certainly hit harder. But if Qawi lasts past 5 rounds, the fight would evolve into an infighting war where Kovalev would have no answers. Qawi would expose Kovalev's stamina and will issues over 15 rounds and knock out Kovalev late. Over 12 Kovalev might make it to the final bell, but I still have my doubts.
