I have seen an interview where there is talk of Kovalev being pulled out of a spar with GGG because he sparred "frightened" and wouldn't get involved, sure it was GGG's trainer. Let me see if I can find it.
Consider the source. I beleive Kovelev left able sanchez so im not so sure how honest that asssesment is. Id like to hear what Kovelevs opinion of the sparring was like.
bare in mind Sergey KRUSHER Kovalev has sparred Guillermo Jones,a 200+lb version. thats good sparring that.
Kovalev would brutally KO GGG, GGG's pressure would blow up in his face, it would make Sergey into a counter puncher, and can you imagine how horrific running headlong into a shot from Kovalev would be. It would end like KTFO6.
Great fighters like Pac, Mayweather, Cotto, Roy Jones Jr, and Juan Manuel Marquez defy the obstacle of weight classes.
Cruiserweight was obviously one obstacle Roy had problems with, no matter how good you are weight divisions matter a lot.
You mean like he suffered at light heavy against Antonio Tarva and the Road Warrior. I know Denis Lebedev didn't KO Jones because Jones was past his prime but because Denis Lebedev was just bigger and better. I know.atsch
Weight becomes an increasingly bigger factor the heavier you go. Most of those fighters are from the lower weight classes, which is easy to fill out over a career. From middleweight to higher, not so much as very few have done it successfully. Roy Jones took advantage of a weak John Ruiz, he didn't stick around the heavyweights for a reason. We all know Miguel Cotto doesn't belong at 160 (or even 154 I would say), he took advantage of a weak Sergio Martinez. Kovalev at 175 would obliterate a 160 pound GGG. Kovalev isn't a weak John Ruiz or injured Sergio. He's a legitimate light heavyweight who will walk into the ring much bigger than GGG.
