I can't recall ever seeing Maske hurt by anyone. He was a phenomenal yet awkward boxer. I could see him out boxing Kov over 12 rounds. Then again, prime Kov was no slouch and certainly hit harder than anyone Maske ever fought. I'm going with Maske by UD but not with any confidence.
Fearless road warrior extraordinaire Kovalev would've already have landed on German soil before the ink on the contract was dry. If that was Dre the fight never would've got made because some fighters need all the advantages that can be wangled stacked in their favour before they'll even contemplate signing on that dotted line. Kovalev did it ''the hard way'' and those aren't my words they're Dre's words. Maske was hurt against Rocky and he was down once against Magi which I only found out recently after another poster mentioned it. Interesting match up. But why would Henry ''The German Michael Jordan'' Maske need to travel outside of Germany when he was an absolute superstar over there and was averaging 17.8 million views and 23 million peak? "The German boxing business really started in 1992 when my dad did the deal for [German boxer] Henry Maske with [TV channel] RTL," insists Kalle Sauerland, whose father Wilfred kept the business ticking over for 15 years before the Maske deal. "There are three people responsible for boxing in Germany: Wilfred Sauerland, Henry Maske and Hans Mahr of RTL because he took the risk and it looked like a risk at the time." Maske went on and had 12 world title fights between 1993 and 1996 and averaged 17.8m viewers, with a peak at 23m. "When Henry boxed it was like a national holiday," remembers Sauerland' FTR, Maske's debut was in the UK and he fought over here again for his 5th fight and over in the US in his 8th. He also fought in France once too.
Maske was good, BUT, it seems Sergey Kovalev is one of those formally overrated (me included) to now being criminally underrated because of his recent underwhelming performances due to his being shot. Prime Sergey was a primo operator with strength, excellent boxing skills and power in both mitts. IMHO, he deserved the bid against a very good Andre Ward. I'd take the Krusher that beat Cleverly or Hopkins over Maske
No style analysis needed. Maske was a consummate professional and Kovalev a drunk. Maske by boring but efficient UD.
