Gamboa is getting tagged clean in this round. It's too early for him.

    Round 2

Gamboa is catching 1-2s on the forearms. Sosa landing the left hook on the hip, causing Gamboa to partially double over as he retreats. Sosa is sweeping the left hook up top and clipping the very tip of Gamboa's chin. Gamboa is still boxing very well overall and mostly controlling the action with his jab but lingering in the pocket a bit too long, absorbing some damage on the body and getting dangerously close to being caught with a power shot up top, many grazing him and coming just shy of landing flush with his rapid defensive movements saving him in the nick of time.

    10-9 Sosa, close

    19-19

Sosa doing better cutting the ring off and putting pressure on Gamboa. Gamboa still looking good, throwing more for sure, won the first half of the second. But Sosa edged it with right hands in the second half. 19-19. Sosa has him where he wants him now.

It's a terrible omen for Gamboa that the cracks are already starting to show this early.

Its the obvious call to predict he needed to stockpile points early and survive when he inevitably faded and got hit down the stretch. This isn't exactly "down the stretch"

It's concerning that a nutcase like Lipton is reffing this.

    Round 3

Gamboa trips over Sosa's left foot and does a reverse somersault. Ref correctly rules it not a knockdown. Gamboa working a pretty 1-2-3, changing levels and landing on the belly & throat of Sosa, varying his planes of attack. Clinch, and Sosa taps Gamboa on the jaw with his free left hand until the ref calls a break. They circle at close range and exchange jabs and Sosa knocks Gamboa back involuntarily a few steps with his much stiffer one, reaching in. They swap hooks doing the same mirror-image dance in ring center and Gamboa lands his better. Gamboa is caught with a clubbing right hand and goes down to all fours. Ruled a rabbit punch, unintentional, no warning to Sosa. Long clinch by the ropes. Gamboa having a hard time outmaneuvering Sosa now, taking a lot of chances falling in with quick straight combos and getting caught - albeit never cleanly - with lunging fat hooks, Sosa burying them in the neck and coming just barely south of the goodnight button.

    10-9 Gamboa, razor thin

    29-28 Gamboa

Gamboa really looks nervy now. A lot of backing up, winging and moving, but Sosa well-positioned and I think controlling the action. Round 3 close but Sosa for me. 2-1 Sosa.
