Pretty disappointing that this seems to be the overall tone of responses so far (though I suspect PA was just being sarcastically snarky).

If you claim to have an opinion on Ward/Kovalev/Stevenson/Bivol etc you goddamn well better follow the light heavyweight division enough to know who the **** Mikhalkin is.

I'm sick of people chiming in like experts on [insert fighter name] when they can't even name five guys in that fighter's division that they've actually seen.

A very strange choice of the opposition. It seems like Kovalev is under Stevenson's influence. :)
I can't see Mikhalkin in the WBO rankings. At least he's not in the top 15 there.
Kovalev had a rather, well, strange title fight and now he blatantly chooses whomever he wants to..?
    Ok. :crazylick:

Course I know who he is. Handed Oosthuizen is first loss. He's a quality operator. My disappointment is more in my desire for Kovalev to jump right back into the mix w/ the "premiere" names like Bivol, Barrera, Beterbiev. At Kovalev's level, Shabransky was the confidence-regainer that he needed. Let Mikhalkin make some noise first.

I'm not sure how Shabransyy followed by Mikhalkin is a more disappointing consecutive two-fight progression in a comeback from two losses than Cedric Agnew and Blake Caparello were as a consecutive two-fight progressive in the middle of a ****ing world title reign?

We've already had that mediocre stretch... And it was during a time when Kovalev's stock and profile was still being built. Why do we need Mikhalkin? Are you honestly saying that you prefer Mikalkin over Bivol/Betervbiev/Barrera and aren't disappointed?

The only one of those I'm sure is superior to Mikhalkin is Bivol. I think both Beterbiev and Barrera are overrated.

Kovalev vs. Bivol is brewing. Let it steep. Come late 2018 or early 2019 it will be a super-fight, maybe the biggest at LHW in ages.

belts mean nothing anymore. if the belt meant anything kovalev must fight beterbiev, the nail, jack, sully, bivol. but hes planning his fight strategically to get himself back in groove. i dont have a prob with fight. this guy is still good n sergey needs to get a lil win streak going before taking on real challenge

If Kovalev and Bivol win their fights and unify, then it will be a WBA, WBO, IBO and IBA unification bout.

He had a choice to fight for a title against:

One of the 7-10 best fighters in the world

    Or

    a guy with 12 fights.

And it was probably the same money, so who can blame him.

It means something to the fighter, the guy with the belt makes a lot more money, and fights on TV.
