Which nobody seems to realize wasn't even a solo tune, it was co-written by the other members of Generation X and was their big single long before he struck out to make it on his own (and subsequently re-released it under his own name).

Every time I tell people that, it prompts the same look on their faces - a mixture of respect, pity and fear, and usually followed by "you are way too much of a nerd about way too many things.."

Ward never demonstrated the kind of power to hurt Sergey either.

My 52lb 8 yo daughter could KO McCall if she was allowed to tee off on his scrotum as if it was a speed bag as Ward was allowed.

Wash that mouth of yours out with hot sudsy water, btw! Gargle the soap!

I'm still the head coachman on this buggy. I'm the day-1 Prez of the Krusher fan Klub; don't get it twisted.

Fact is, though, every great has a half-life, after which they see diminishing returns against their young, prime, budding peers in elite company. There comes a point when the risk vs. reward seesaw reaches a tipping point and the once-avoided great finds themselves in the position of needing to walk through a minefield of newer replicas of themselves (insomuch as being h2h bogeyman, don't mean stylistic copies necessarily in case that is confusing) so as to make it to what they feel is their long-overdue just desserts: the few big reward paydays at the end of the road. Ward retiring dealt a blow to Kovalev's chances of a) milking that rivalry for every red cent and b) getting sweet revenge and taking SOG's precious zero. He must now, in the landscape that Ward has left in his wake, tread carefully. There are sharks in these waters, and not all of them are worth attempting to catch. He's as liable to lose a limb as bag a valuable prize. So he needs to select from among these options carefully. If he does so, there could still be a few more savagely efficient and eye-catching performances on HBO to jack up his value before he lands the big payday or two at the horizon's edge - whoever they are.

My inner Bivol fan very much wants to see the Kovalev torch-passing fight get made, while the longtime Kovalev fan in me dreads it. Bivol is too high risk for too low reward for Kovalev at this stage (while the opposite is true for Dmitry)

Why is no one talking about Beterbiev? I think he ices them all.

If they all stood like ducks in a row with their feet in cement and hands by their sides for him, sure.

Eh, you're overrating his decline, here's the probable reality had they switched opponents Bivol would have beaten Mikhalkin by UD instead of emulsifying his face and stopping him in 7 like Kovalev did, and Bivol would have looked subpar while doing so. While the Krusher would have violently KO'd with repulsively glass jawed Barrera in 3 rounds or less.

You should be the one gargling with soap after the hatchet job you did on poor Sergey Saturday night, that was pure sacrilege.:shakehead: Not only did you throw Kovalev under the bus after the Bivol match, but you backed over him, hit park and dropped a boulder on it.

Also the soap wouldn't work on me anyway, I grew to enjoy the taste of soap as a child, it would bring back fond memories of my non stop rebellious vulgar tirades as a youth. And I'd chew on the soap and **** it up, which cured them of that fairly quickly.:D

I agree. The style clash favors Kovalev in many ways. Kovalev is good at catching guys coming in. It will look like the first Kovalev-Ward fight, in which Kovalev outboxed and hurt Ward. The only difference will be that Bivol won't have Jay-Z paying off the judges for him.

I am a big fan of both and have been following their fights for few years now. To me it is 50/50 fight. Kovalec has longer reach and is bigger and has bigger one-punch power. On the other hand Bivol is slicker, faster, has better defense and at this stage I think better stamina. I think Dmitri is also mentally the more stable of the two, as the Krusher often allows hies emotions to rule him.

Completely agree, I don't know at what point people
started thinking Kovalev was second class. I still hold
him in very high regard and still personally believe
he's a top 5 p4p guy. Sans Ward, I still think he beats
everyone at LHW as well as any SMW's that may gain
weight thinking the division is ripe for the taking.

    People forget,
Ward lost that first fight, remember how STUNNED he was when he heard the decision
And the second fight, ended in a very bizarre situation.
JUST LOOK AT THE WILDER ORTIZ 7TH ROUND, WILDER WAS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE
WHEREAS KOV WAS HIT IN THE BALLS AND WAS TKOD

Wait. How is favoring Bivol a "hatchet job" on Kovalev, exactly? Or saying he didn't look his best against Mikhalkin? (which he didn't...and for a host of forgivable reasons: they're friends IRL, Mikhalkin is tough and cagey with a difficult style to look good against, etc - but nonetheless, bottom line, it wasn't exactly one you'd throw on a DVD of Kovalev's ten most scintillating and impressive performances...or hell, fifteen)

I never said to stick a fork in him. Kovalev still has a trail of destruction to leave in his wake at 175lb. I'm just saying he ought to skirt his talented countryman while on the warpath so that he can extend it as long as possible.

Kovalev beat Igor in a brutal and horrid manner imo. That guy was brave and took a lot of risks but paid severely for it in the end.
Kovalev is still a master at making guys go through hell before they get close to him. I thought he looked good against Igor.
Bivol is a natural fight to make next as they are both under the same roof. I hope they get in on soon or by the end of the year. Haven't seen either guy say they want it yet though.

I'm going to LOL so hard when Artur detonates one of his 5 inch Russian bear nuclear holocaust bombs on the mandible sections of Kov, Gvozdyk, and Bivol and lays them out cold in the most gruesome highlight reel fashion.

Likewise, I'm going to do the same when Kov times the jabs of Artur, Gvozdyk, and Bivol with that razor sharp brutal right sledgehammer right hand of his and they're wobbling all over the ring on spaghetti legs until Kov's follow up attack drops them on their asses and gives them a taste of what KTFO pie tastes like.

I'll do the same when Gvozdyk boxes Artur, Sergey's and Bivol's ears off, jabbing them silly whilst he glides round the ring effortlessly, raking them with every punch in the book breaking them down methodically before lowering the boom and blasting them out of there in the late rounds.

As I will do when Bivol beats the snot out of Artur, Kov, and Gvozdyk and breaks them down with lazer guided jabs and right hands down the middle and lightning fast combos before they inevitably wilt under the onslaught.
