Early thoughts. This is my first time seeing Kuzmin. He is one of those square cut move forward punchers, with a good deal of strength and power. He looks to be about 6'4, 240. I base this off of Cammarelle who is 6'3" 230.

Kuzmin needs to refine his attack, and work on his balance. I thought Cammarelle edged this one, but the event is is Russia.

Kuzmin at 23 is definitely one to keep an eye on. I want to see him again.

i'd say he's 6'5-6'6 and he has to be at least 250lbs. The width of his back and thickness front to back compared to 230lb Cammarelle is very noticable. He's huge.

He has a hell of a punch but i'm pretty unimpressed. What happened to Timurziev, did Kuzmin beat him or is he not fighting anymore? Timurziev had monsterous power too but was a much better boxer.

I certianly don't view him as anything special. The last guy i thought that could have really ended up being a dominant Pro HW was Romanchuk.

I posted Kuzim's results, he had two stoppage wins in four fights. No doubt he can punch some. At age 23 Kuzim needs to work on fundamentals, and mechanics, however he is a gifted big man, who moves forward and doesn't feat getting hit. He might be 6'5" 250. I will have to check.

Timurziev had cancer, and lost his confidence. He's pretty sure man he's done. A very gifted puncher, he had stamina issues, and some chin issues toward the end.

Romanchuk was a top level boxer-puncher type, who could in fight or out fight, and man he loved to mix it up. He beat Solis 2-1 in a three match series, and also bested Cammarelle many years ago. However he was out of the game due to a gun shot wound. Word is he is back at super heavy, but he will have to beat Kuzim to get the #1 glove status for the Olympics in 2012. Romanchuck should turn pro. Not sure if he will.

I'm curious why Russia selected Kuzmin. Their national rankings as of april was this:

    1 Niyaz Faizulin
    2 Maxim Babanin
    3 Denis Sergeyev
    4 Sergey Kuzmin

So why did he get picked?

Obviously he did a good job.

Edit: I mistook this for the official rankings. This was the rankings of Michael Smith. Apparently Kuzmin was third in Russia's national rankings behin Faizulin and on of the other two guys.

The European amateur champions is a major tournament, only below the world Amateurs and the Olympics. Kuzmin must have won a box off. Maybe someone was injured? Anyone know for sure?
