Alexey Yurievich Mazur vs. Carlos Daniel Córdoba, 8 rounds @ lightweight

 

Southpaw versus southpaw. Russian in the black & red with the receding hairline and "El Zorrito" rocking the Argentinian flag colored gear with the resplendent silky black mini-mullet.

 

Cordoba outworking Mazur, outmuscling him in the clinch, and turning over some fine right hooks downstairs (though most of his stuff up top is sloppy, and he is headhunting a lot).

Mazur hanging back, doing a lot of waiting & baiting, throwing heavier and more accurate left uppercuts and right hooks but not a ton of them. The odd stave-off right jab could be used more as well; when Cordoba barges through it he he gets discouraged and stops throwing it.

 

They're both barkers. Every single punch, so that a long combo sounds like "uh-uh-UH-UH-UH-uh-UH". Annoying amateur habit that is often most closely associated with products of the American system but clearly is a worldwide issue.

 

Mazur thinks he's Maravilla now?

Arms dangling below his knees, vastly overconfident in his ability to slip punches while backpedaling.

Is scoring nicely with counter 1-2s down the pipe, though.

 

Cordoba's triangular overhand left reminds me of Proksa (remember him?)

 

Oof, disappointingly hideous eighth & final round.

Clinches from both exhausted fighters, low blows from Cordoba, rabbit punches by Mazur...

Cordoba's mouthpiece out twice, and Mazur at one point randomly slipped on the canvas and fell on his ass.

Almost glad I tuned in too late to score this one RBR because they both deserve negative ten points for this one.

The ref was so mad, when Cordoba tried initiating a sportsmanlike glove touch with Mazur he shoved them apart violently.

 

Unanimous decision for Alexey Mazur. Cordoba doesn't seem too upset, just happy to be there, grinning and hugging everyone in sight except the ring girls. (maybe his wife is ringside )

 

That little Russian kid with the blonde crew-cut headbanging like crazy to a techno remix of Eye of the Tiger is maybe the funniest thing I've seen on a Match Boets show in a long while.

Better have a pediatrician specializing in whiplash on speed-dial.

Alexander Yurievich Severin vs. Ivan Nikolayevich Maidanchuk, 4 rounds @ heavyweight

 

Severin, who looks kind of like that jacked ultra-Chad meme, is making his pro debut.

Maidanchuk is nicknamed "Puncher" but is 0-1, kayoed in his own debut nearly a year ago.

 

Opener went on a yo-yo from cagey to chaotic (with the ref having to intervene basically whenever they stopped posing and flurried their way inside)

Obvious physical strength advantage for Severin but no really good clean work from either yet.
