    True, but at the end of the day when you don't even lift a finger to stop your corner from ending it you are tacitly quitting. Martinez did basically the exact inverse of what Santos did, just quietly accepting his fate.

    (in Santos' case, I don't know that any of his team ever got as far as communicating directly with the ref, but he certainly went alpha on them enough to make them STFU and give him one more round...)

    Off the top of my head, the closet situation I can think of when a ref didn't stop the fight when the corner did was Arthur Mercante when Yuri Foreman's corner threw in the towel and Mercante basically said no this fight is still going on. Ironically enough against Miguel Cotto.

    Ref ignored the corner and let the fighter continue the fight. That freaking ref basically walked Foreman thru the rest of the fight, even cheered him on. :lol:

    But I suspect Sergio knew his knee was shot before the fight began.

    He's almost 40, and he needed the $$$. Maybe he was hoping to land something big on Cotto and end it early, who knows.


    It was obvious that this was a ghost of the Martinez who destroyed Williams, Pav and Junior.

    Prime for prime, the result would have been a mirror image of what went down tonight.
