A top fighter like who, dude? He just secured a fight with Macklin who looked sensational in his come back fight after losing to Sergio. There was a chance that it was going to fall through but luckily HBO appears to have used it's muscle.

Martinez? See Dibella's tirades on why it shouldn't happen.

Geale? He was stripped of his WBA strap for not fighting Golovkin and appears to content with IBF mandatories down under.

Pirog? GGG signed to fight him and the guy pulled out with a back injury and hasn't been seen since.

Quillin? He's on record several times - as recently as this past weekend - clearly saying he doesn't want it. Plus there are network issues there. Before Kid Choc won the WBO, he turned down a shot at Golovkin's title.

Chavez Jr? Now thats interesting. He was badly whipped and then suspended following Sergio. I'd be shocked if HBO didnt push for that later this year with Martinez out and no rematch to make. K2 would LEAP at the opportunity.

Martin Murray? I actually think he's close to being the WBA's #1 contender and his stock just rose a little bit. If the WBA orders it, I absolutely guarantee - lifetime ban bet - that Golovkin takes that fight if HBO accepts as an opponent, and I'm sure they will.

OP and thread title is premature, but a lot of people either aren't paying attention or they're just full of ****.

No one answered my legitimate question. Doesn't GGG have to beat SM first?

Rest assured, Macklin is Gennady's entry ticket and hopefully he doesn't ever have to look back again after this. Once he grabs your attention, keep up with what follows it as it pertains to opponents. There isn't a single guy campaigning at 160 lbs that he won't fight, and he'll be a great champion because of that.

  4. Hahaha. GGG has better wins in the amateurs than all of quilin's fights. GGG has already beat up quilin in sparing, and has turned down fighting GGG. You think he got more for being an undercard against Guerrero. Only one middleweight is begging to unify the belts. After GGG beats up macklin, nobody can say ****, quilin has not fought anyone as good as macklin. So glad Martinez is done. No more excuses from quilin or Geale, GGG is ready to see who is best at middleweight, so they can't keep saying they are waiting to fight Martinez.

Doesn't Dibella need to allow him anywhere near SM first?

He does, but MW boxing doesn't stop until Sergio is back from injury and ready for a legit threat sometime next fall. Even if Golovkin is not the #1 contender, you can still speculate he's the best guy at MW. Cause The Champ <> best fighter at the weight, at least sometimes.

  7. No, Martinez is washed up and done, will probably take one more shitty fight and retire, give murray to ggg and watch the result

HBO would be pretty bright to call for that if they want Golovkin to fill Martinez's previous role. Fresh off that performance against the man himself? Make the damn fight, and like I said Murray is high up in the WBA's rankings as well.

Yeah, I don't think anybody would say Michael Spinks was the best heavyweight in the game through 1986 and 1987 despite being The Champ.

  10. Besides that, GGG will move around weight classes like super middleweight looking for giant fights, quilin and Geale are bitches, only one guy wants to unify, you quilin and Geale fans like ***** fighters, I like real fighters.

The problem is, Murray was denied a visa when he was lined up for Chavez earlier, cause he'd spent some time in prison. As much as HBO likes him, they can do little in these matters, see Angulo. Of course, they don't have to fight in the States, for example put it on Wlad's next undercard.

Good point, they'd have to work around it. How possible do you think it is he's matched with Chavez Jr later on in the year? I was pretty sure they were looking to put together a rematch with Martinez, but those plans are obviously out for 2013 now.

Martinez is way more legit and deserving of the title than some of the guys i had in mind, or Spinks. Not long ago he was indeed The Man, but he's 40, out of action till next year, with recurring injuries, coming off a razor close decision over an unproven big underdog.

But GGG has not even come close to beating the guys SM has. I think that won't change over the next year even if he beats Macklin. I think if SM heals up 100%, he can still fight.

Sadly I agree with this. I love Sergio but he's looking his age and his chin isn't built for true middle weights. He's reflexes are diminishing, speed and head movement was almost non existent. However he's had some hard fights and is body is tore up and he needs multiple surgeries and time to heal. Who knows, with the time off and right game plan we might see the old Sexy back, or at least I'm hoping. But I do agree that GGG looks like future of the decision, especially against the Sexy we saw the other night. I think he'll be the one to take out Sexy and eventually fight Ward. I haven't seen enough of him to think he can beat Ward, but it's certainly a possibility. Sad to see my fighters go, I've been watching Sexy since 2006, he was one of my favorite even before anyone knew of him, but father time catches up to us all...

And it's worth noting that Murray is a world class fighter, give the man the respect he deserves. Quality quality fighter. Hopefully he gets another shot. On my care I called the second knock down and had it one point for Murray, and although I'm English at heart, I'm a huge Sergio fan so if I'm admitting Murray won then that's some real **** and not hone town cooking
