OOoh! Explain that timeline to me!
 I have broken that **** down so many times now. Only time Golovkin was truly on the table was when Martinez fought Cotto, who was supposed to be basically a tuneup(like Murray).

Sergio beat no name fighter and WBA immediately ranked him No.6. What a crap! WBA is probably the worst boxing organization of all time.

Honestly I dont think Martinez would duck anyone. He;s got a lot of balls and belief in himself to an almost cocky level.
In that time the bigger fight was Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and I dont blame him for wanting to be the first to beat that hype job douche.
Just think, fight a mega fight against the son of a Mexican legend which will draw a huge hispanic crowd or fight some guy from Kazakhstan?
Their eras didnt quite line up, has nothing to do with ducking. And I pick Martinez in that fight againt GGG frankly to win a decision.

I like Maravilla, and I don't like Eubank Jr, but Jr stops him pretty easily if they meet.

Golovkin made his HBO debut a week before Martinez fought Chavez. He was a literal nobody at the time.
Then Chavez and Martinez were supposed to have a rematch and they both took tuneups.
At this point Golovkin managed to establish himself as the next top contender.
Then Martinez got sidelined. Could Martinez have fought Golovkin instead of Cotto? Sure. But Cotto was seen as the money fight and basically a tuneup.
    Ducked my ass.

Sergio should not be fighting active contenders, his time at the top has passed.

From Barker to Cotto there was no space or interest in a Golovkin fight? OK then. Thanks for letting me know.

****ing break it down for me. When did Golovkin establish himself as a contender? A real player in the division?

Because Golovkin made his HBO debut the same month Martinez fought Chavez.
Then Martinez was tied to a rematch with Jr. Both took tuneups that went quite badly.
Martinez got then sidelined. At this point Golovkin had established himself as the nr 1 contender, the next possible champ.
So martinez could have fought him, but chose Cotto as he was the money fight and seen as an easy tuneup basically.
Could Martinez have fought Golovkin after the long layoff? Sure. But is it a duck? Nah. Not even close.

I love the idea that only HBO fighters should be given shots. He was more relevant than the Macklins and Barkers of the world who weren't selling tickets/buys or adding to his legacy.

He was a nobody stuck in Germany. Was Martinez supposed to chase after him?
Had Golovkins side reached out, I would be on board with you. But it was never on the table. At least not back pre 2012.
Macklin got a shot because he arguably beat Sturm and just signed with Dibella.
Barker called Martinez out and Martinez accepted. Basically got made because Dibella had little else to offer Martinez

    Abraham, Degale, Korobov, Martinez ...
What a resume this young warrior could end up with!

Scary thing is, Martinez could take that Eubank fight. He was calling out BJS not too long ago. Someone needs to talk to him. Macklin said he was friends with him. Make the call, Matt. Or watch Eubank Jr beat up an old champion before a roaring crowd of British muppets along with their old flame, that deranged father, prancing around the ring in a sleeveless tunic and monocle, lisping pretentious nonsense.
