Martinez has retired. Evaluation can be completed. GG is still active. Evaluation in terms of historical status is ongoing. Unfair comparison. Irrelevant to OP. You are only exposing your own moroseness here again.
As a Sergio fan, he's definitely not an ATG, I think honestly, he struggles to get into the HOF. Possibly does because he's the first Argentine MW champ since Monzon and maybe the length of time he held the title, but that would be it. Again, I'm a fan but he toiled in the dungeons anonymously for too long for me to consider him an ATG.
Martinez isn't great, and neither is Golovkin. The "great" label is handed out far too liberally now-adays for my liking. Martinez is HOF worthy, but unfortunately the HOF ain't nothing today where even idiots like Harold Lederman can get in. Although Martinez is far from great and is closer to the label than someone like Golovkin who has fought nothing but a long string of nobodies.
But nobody mentioned him or said he was until professor plum did. That wasn't the question i was asking..
Who has said Golovkin is great here? Why are you comparing an active fighter to a retired one in terms of historical standing?
Certainly doesn't deserve HOF let alone ATG status. If he makes HOF, it should solely be something to do with him being 20 by the time he started boxing.
Lucas Matthysse and Marcos Maidana have a better chance entering the HOF before Martinez. They have better resumes than Martinez, no pun intended.
I did answer your question as well as the question others have asked. Neither are great. The only great fighters of this era are; -Mayweather -Ward -Pac -JMM
