Is Sergio Martinez now inelligible to be on the hall of fame ballot again this year because he came back? Does he now have to retire again and wait another 5 years to be on the ballot again? He should already have been inducted in my opinion, dumbasses at IBHOF
Yes. And he probably won't get in, even 5 years from now. I absolutely love the guy, but his middleweight reign was too short.
It's okay. He was never going to be first ballot but he takes care of himself and does things to counteract the hair gel byproducts.
I am not sure he a sure thing for the Hall of Fame. Beating Cintron, Pavlik, Williams and Chavez jr but losing to Cotto?
His loss to Cotto is his fault. He failed his diet and performed miserably. The Martinez that beat Pavlik would be much more formiddable against Cotto.
Well it is fault because he lost the fight to another fighter and he couldn't beat him. Maybe Cotto has something to do with that. The Martinez who fought Cotto lost and had a big excuse after. I don't see him Hall of Fame worthy. He fought good guys like a lot of guys did. He did not excel too much. He was on HBO and he was a big name for a little while.
Cotto beat a 1 legged Sergio. A prime Martinez would have embarassed and probably KO'ED Slow-tto You 2 nitwits also dont realize that Serg was considered the 3rd best P4P fighter for a good 3 year run. And Gayweather dodged him, its proven fact
Martinez needs to make a great comeback to be put into the HOF. He will have to be the world champion again at 160 or 168 to be recognized by boxing fans, medias, and experts.
Martinez should have retired after Murray. It was clear he had had gotten old in that fight. Cotto beat an old man with a bum knee. Caught him at the right time. It's as simple as that really.
Yes, he was on the last ballot (Class of 2020) - where Hopkins, Marquez and Mosley got voted in. He has of course now lost his place on the list (at least for the next 3 years) - and I'm not even sure, there will be a spot for him in the future.
