Felix Sturm did a better job on Zbik than Chavez and yet nobody considers Sturm to be nearly as good as Martinez. And i can see Macklin stopping Lee.

Chavez is a step down from Pavlik. Pavlik had a better jab and was more proven.

the advantages martinez will have over chavez is pretty close to the advantages sturm.

superior boxing skills and speed.

but sturm wouldn't have the same advantages chavez would have against martinez.

size , strength , etc.

boxing is not all about better technique and better boxing skills.

size plays a part. toughness , chin , strength , etc. as well.


to say martinez would beat sturm and sturm beat zbik better than chavez is a reason to say martinez will automatically beat chavez is ridiculous.

chavez is bigger/stronger and can take a better punch. also...he applies better pressure and throws beautiful body shots. when martinez looks to take a break in the middle rounds....look for chavez to take over for the win.

i see this fight as a 160 version of cotto-margarito 1.

it'll go the same way. serg making chavez look bad early and boxing his ears off.....then as the fight goes on serg starts to tire and get worn down by the much bigger man who keeps coming.

now can chavez ko/tko serg like marg did? not sure. maybe.

can serg hang in there and keep chavez off and hang on to the win , which cotto couldn't? very possible.

it's gonna be a damn good fight. i think anyone who thinks this fight will be easy is gonna be proven wrong.

 

TR had talked about moving him up to face Pavlik in the fall. After he 'apparently' made weight easy and didn't break much of a sweat against Lee they decided to go with Martinez instead. So, looks like the matchmakers at TR think it is at least possible. That or cashing him out against Martinez is more profitable now than cashing him out against Pavlik?
