Sergio Martinez- Hype job?

I don't think you understand what you're watching.

It's much easier to "box" your opponent when they are smaller than you and are forced to be the aggressor.

It's much harder to attack someone and look good because your opponent is so terrified of being hit.

This is especailly true when you're an intelligent counterpuncher like Martinez. And I don't think he's easy to hit.

And if you had them ahead on the scorecards, maybe you need to learn the sport.

I don't remember the fight like I saw it yesterday, but I do recal Martinez hitting him with body shots and straight left hands, and slowly breaking him down.

Barker did manage to get Martinez with his jab, and it was a close fight, but Martinez was still winning on the cards.

You also said Macklin was winning the fight, so it's very difficult to see you as a trusthworthy thread starter, as it sounds more like you're a troll.

And like I said, how many guys do you know that are natural counterpunchers, that fight against taller, bigger opponents with good jabs?

Not even Mayweather will do this. So why the hate?

 

I think people are reading too much into the Macklin fight. Macklin is a big dude and was using a really good game plan of using his reach, jabs to the body, keeping the distance. There were a few exchanges in the early to mid rounds and Macklin didn't want any of that after Martinez touched him up. Martinez waited patiently and tired his foe out, then proceeded to knock his ass out.

 

Exactly. Martinez obviously expected Macklin to come foward, but when Macklin felt his power and decided to play it safe, Martinez adjusted, bided his time, and slowly broke his opponent down.

And then he ended matters with a convincing knockout.

People on this site don't know **** about boxing.

 

I guess Merchant doesn't either because I remember him complaining the entire fight, expecting Martinez to wade through punches and knock Macklin out just like that.

 

JCC is a different fighter than Macklin and Barker though. He hasn't shown the boxing ability that Macklin and Barker utilize.

And if he intends on using his size and coming foward because he's the bigger stronger man, he's going to learn the hard way, how hard Martinez can punch.

 

What makes good fighters good, great fighters great and champions; champions...is that they can find a way to win and stay confident in the game to eventually win or stop their opponent...

Martinez is one of those guys..even in a tough fight (you can't knock EVERYBODY out cold in the second round in every fight and with every kind of opponent)...he wins

Macklin and Barker are both good,solid fighters. Theres no one out there who would just walk through them.

Remember as well,that this is a guy who is really a light middle operating at middle.

Most of the guys he fights are notiacbly bigger.

 

Pity he spent his prime years beating up spanish civil servants.
