I think I was wrong and harsh to call him a hype job. I respect him as a great fighter but the current version of Martinez is not that great and is well over hyped. I do not see how he is considered #3 p4p today, a few years ago after the Williams KO, he deserved to be #3.

Hes won a legit world title as an underdog. Far from a hypejob.

I don't think he's P4P #3 anymore. I'd put Ward ahead of him. Marquez is probably superior too. Martinez may be slipping, he isn't getting any younger. I'm gunning for Chavez to win in an upset if he can apply the necessary workrate to win.

Martinez is ranked #3 by phony american rankings because he beat Williams when he was #3. If Paul Williams had known the same ko win streak as Martinez after winning against Sergio, nobody would question him being ranked this high.
Nobody questionned P Will's ranking after his first close fight (which lots of people think Martinez won) vs Martinez .

    BUMP

I made this thread before Martinez beat JCC jr. I think everyone will agree that the JCC fight ranks as one of Martinez's greatest wins. I stand by my point that there was no justification for Martinez to be the p4p #3 at the time. Murray just made Martinez look very average, surely he does not justify a place in the top 10 p4p on current form.

The homo brigade will keep him at 3, hell probably move him to 1, he was so brave crying to the ref, feigning low blows, 'falling' to the canvas twice and hitting gloves. That isn't PFP type performance, I don't know what is.

It's a bit harsh to call someone a hypejob if their rise to prominance was off the back of upsets - Pavlik and Williams. He was being a tad-bit overrated, yes, but I wouldn't call him a hype-job. Besides, he's been out of the top four P4P lists for quite a while. Donaire, JMM and Ward have been sitting comfortably above him in recent times. You can add Rigo to that list, too. Martinez is slowly going down.
