You are taking the minority position, simply to take the minority position, Martinez beats the **** out of Manny, too big, too strong, too fast.

Yep if they were in the same weight class , Pac would do a number on him. Same with Floyd. If I were manny I would not fight him though. He's too big, and with handspeed and KO power at the upper weights, that's too dangerous.

The question is can Martinez come down to 154lb challenge PAC for hit title and
at the same time offer his MW title so the winner would have titles at both classes?

Pacquiao was getting hit alot by Margarito if you watch that fight closely. And no way in hell that Pacquiao is harder to hit then Martinez. Hell when Clottey actually throws a punch he landed alot of shots on Pacquiao. Pacquiao fought bigger punchers? Martinez last 3 opponents he's fought Cintron, Pavlik, Williams. <<<<Those are also bigger punchers but maybe better with Pavlik hits harder then both Margarito and Cotto. You talk about Williams landing alot on Martinez in the first fight? Yea true but i think it's more to do with Williams longer reach by throwing every punch from every angles.

Martinez would win against Pacquiao. Not easily, it might be a tough battle, but he can make. He can KO Pacquiao. That's what he said in an interview, that he would literally destroy Pacquiao.

If Pacquiao is unwilling to fight Martinez at 154 then he should drop his belt. He has no buisness holding a belt if he's unwilling to defend it without a catch-weight.

This ^^

I've always liked Sergio (he was robbed the 1st fight vs. PW) but I vote Manny for a late stoppage/decision. He has proven too many times already that SIZE and STRENGTH will not defeat him. Speed, accurate punching, angles, combos, head movement, boxing IQ, experience (in different weight divisions) will yet again prevail PERIOD.

This "big" argument is really getting out of the line:

height reach weight
Guys bigger:
Pavlik - 6′ 2½″ 75″ 160
Williams - 6′ 1″ 82″ 156
Margarito - 5′ 11″ 73″ 150/154
Martinez - 5′ 10″ 76″ 157¼

Guys middle size:
Mosley - 5′ 9″ 74″ 154/147
Khan - 5′ 10″ 71″ 140
Mayweather 5′ 8″ 72″ 146
Morales - 5′ 8″ 72″ 143/147 !!!

Guys a bit smaller:
Hatton - 5′ 7½″ 65″ 138
Marquez - 5′ 7″ 67″ 133/142
PAC - 5′ 6½″ 67″ 145
Cotto - 5′ 7″ 67″ 153/145

If the size would really matter the guys like PAC, Cotto would never have any chances against the guys like Mosley, Margarito. Martinez would never beat Pavlik or Williams ... it means a few pounds of difference is neutralized by skills and speed. So Martinez beat both Pavlik and Williams because he is better/faster ... but is he better or faster than PAC or Floyd ... I doubt.

But you need to take into account just how good Martinez is. He might not be on Pacs level but he's the 3rd best fighter in the world. Add that with the size advantage he will have..

I agree, everybody have its advantages, however is Martinez really as good to be at #3? Probably two years ago nobody really knew who Martinez is, he is known right now because he beat Pavlik, and knocked out Williams ... but he struggled with Williams the first time and Williams was never considered a proven challenge above WW.

PAC and Mayweather are proven boxers who came up from lighter classes and basically they have success fighting the bigger guys. So on paper Martinez is a real challenge but does he really have any advantages over consecutively #1 and #2 p4p fighters?

For me its like 50/50 fight accounting all the pros/cons but its not like mission impossible.

Pavlik's connect rate against Martinez was about 6% higher than his connect rate against McKart. In addition, McKart was more agressive and stayed "in the pocket" more than Martinez did. In other words, Martinez is not as elusive as people seem to think he is.

Pac isn't all that elusive either. Margo and Clottey caught him with some good shots, and neither has anything close to Sergio's hand speed.

Pac has proven that he can beat bigger guys, but Martinez has not proven he can beat speed and ring intelligence. Sergio's two big wins came against a guy who is neither fast nor tricky, and another guy who probably has a lower ring IQ than Jermain freaking Taylor.

Go watch Martinez/Cintron, and look closely at what happened when Cintron stood his ground in the middle of the ring and refused to chase Martinez.

Go watch Martinez/Pavlik, and look closely at what happened in the middle rounds when Pavlik stopped head hunting, jabbed to the chest, threw a simple 3-2, and waited for opportunities to counter.

Pac/Martinez is all about the game plan. It isn't about size, or who is more elusive. It is about who puts together and executes the better fight plan.

The exception to that idea would be the weight if Martinez is drained at 154, or the extra weight costs Pac to much speed.

Make it happen! 154. Pac ain't a 154 champion. But who cares, if he beats Martinez it would make it a real champion. And I want Martinez to get a shot at either Pac or Floyd so he can leave the sport with some money too. He's not young (for the sport).
