this guy needs to be shot, that is one of those go againt common sense and general opinion just to make noise or seem cool. Martinez is no hypejob, he is just riding his momentum but he is a very good fighter. I dare him to name one guy 160 and below that will easily beat him?
I would `pick martinez over them as well, but they will have a shot because they are special. I give Pirog a shot as well. But it ends there. Thats why labeling martinez a hypejob bad fighter doesnt go well with me.
The guy kind of has a point but he also misses another point entirly. On paper, beating Pavlik, going 1-1 with Williams and a draw (really should have been a win) against Cintron being the maquee names on your recent resume and then wins against Bunema and Roman being the next best names after that doesn't really sound like a top 5 p4p entrant resume. Some people have Martinez as number 3 p4p behind pac and Mayweater. I don't do p4p lists as i find them pointless and most seem like popularity contests these days rather than a gage of how good the fighters truly are, however just of the top of my head putting Martinez as the third best fighter in the world does seem a bit high. However the writer of the article is doing Martinez a disservice by saying that he is not evn top 20 p4p. Whilst his rise to the top has been late coming and his resume is not stacked, it is clear to see that sergio is a class fighter and he would give many a fighter a tough fight de to his style.
Mayweather-Martinez at 154 is 50/50 IMO. Other than that, yea, nobody beats Sergio right now below 160.
Martinez has rather limited exposure to competition at 154 and above to be giving him such acholades. Bunema, Cintron, Williams, Pavlik, Williams. Pavlik took control of their fight before he gassed out at the start of the 10th round, Williams fight ended to early to see how it would've played out, Cintron came back from a 'KO' to earn a draw. I don't rank Martinez so dominant as most people do. I think he's a great fighter, exciting to watch, well prepared, likeable personality. He's still a small MW, and not too hard to put down. I'd favor Pirog, Golovkin, Lemieux to stop him. Those guys are fundamentally sound, accurate, and powerfull. I also think Sturm, Lee, N'Jikam, Gevor, Macklin, Korobov, and maybe even Manfredo could beat him due to their size advantage. Sergio is 35, and I suspect his age will begin taking a toll on his greatest assests of speed and stamina. He has a style that requires lots of energy and gasses out in the later mid rounds for a few rounds. His fights with Pavlik and Williams were tremendous accomplishments, but sometimes I think people confuse oppurtunity with ability. For example how would have Golovkin had looked in those fights?
PWill was consistently in P4P lists for at least the past few years. Martinez straight up knocked him the **** out in the rematch after a close first fight. Because PWill seemed to have proven he belonged, Martinez was elevated rather than Williams being written off and that seems fair to a lot of people. I think that's why he's in so many lists, because of how he handled a top 10 guy.
He owns both the 154 and 160 divisions respectively, nobody wants to fight him in those divisions including two Top Rank 154 paper champs
this author is a moron. who knows what pound for pound means but martinez can beat anyone from 160 down. who cares what happened in 2007? i am suprised this guy didn't try to write off martinez because he lost to margo. He mentions the cintron fight as a negative without mentioning that he actually knocked out kermit in the fight and that the scorecards were a joke. The author also uses one of the worse scorecards ever from williams-martinez I to justify giving sergio no credit. This author is the same type of guy that hates a band that is now popular just because they are popular. he should not be given a keyboard ever again
:deal good ****, but liking a band or not is simply opinion, i just dont like the jonas brothers, i'm more into that old Triple Six Mafia what the **** can i do about it
