***y, in his prime I think would be too much for GGG. At this point, I'm pretty sure he get knocked out and probably within about six rounds. He just does not move well enough.

Tell me who Golovkin has beaten?

So far he's looked great no doubt. But listen, I've been a fan long enough to know that having heavy hands and incredible punching power does'nt mean it translates to greatness.
He has'nt faced anyone really in the upper tier.

Mike Tyson rolled over b level competition but could never really get a handle on an A level opponent.

Golovkin might be able to pulverize a B level opponent thatt may have taken Sergio Martinez the distance, but that does'nt mean Golovkin does the same to Martinez.

Styles make fights. Look at Juan Diaz at lightweight. He did great against fighters that were there to be hit. Even gave Marquez a battle the first go around with Marquez choosing to war with him.

Here comes a no better than B level opponent in Paulie Malignaggi who makes Diaz look like **** simply because he gave him plenty of lateral moving and alot of slipping and sliding. All traits Martinez would use against Golovkin.

Slip and sliders, movers??? Who in that category has Golovkin faced?
I'd like to watch those fights?

Again, I'm not saying Martinez definitely beat Golovkin. I'm just saying that KO power to me doe'snt convince me of greatness.
I need to see Golovkin against better opposition to better guage him.
At this point I've got ot favor Martinez.

As with the other posters above, I totally agree. Sergio's been a great champ who clawed his way up the hard way, and has nothing to prove to anyone. An example to fellow boxers and fans alike.

The time has come though were he's gonna have to decide whether to hang them up or go out with a bang (as it were). I, personally, believe he should retire on top - but I guess he has to follow his heart.

Just youtubed the Bute amatuer fight. Bute was handling Golovkin rather easily until he got greedy and pressed the pedal to the metal taking the fight hard to Golovkin. You dont do that against a big puncher like Golovkin. Of course, Bute may not have known just how big a puncher Golovkin was back then.
Bute would have stuck strickly to boxing and not gone after Golovkin, from what I saw, Bute would have won handily.

All the Bute amatuer fight tells me is that Golovkin has power. His skills as a boxer certainly were not impressive against Bute.

Are you naive enough to believe all that Golovkin has is power ?

The Martinez from P.W II - K.P - Sergiy Dzinziruk fights was a beast and I'd favor that sharped Martinez against the 3G from the Macklin fight but at this stage 3G would take Sergio out.

If I'd be in Segio's shoes I'd rematch Jr for a good payday and then 3G, then retire.

Funny thing about that fight divac. Tells you something about GGGs ability to hit and not be hit.
First time I saw it, I thought pretty much the same thing as you, Bute seemed to be out-hustling and landing all over him didn't he?

Then I read the comments section, and someone mentioned the punch counter (bottom Left corner if I remember) - go watch the vid. again, and keep your eyes on the punch counter.;) - (edit: my bad bottom right)

Once you get your head around that, try watching it a few more times - see what you think.

I think Sergio takes Chavez in arematch, but he would be even further removed afterwards. At that point, I would not want to see him versus GGG.

Martinez is a warrior, but i think he should avoid this kind of fight, as of now.
    Respect, aniway.

Was'nt paying attention to the shot connect counter.
Just reviewed it and saw several Bute blows not counted on the counter.

The counter is ****, it always has been since its inception into the sport of amatuer boxing. Not sure is it still around today as amatuer boxing lost its fanbase with fans seeing the punches land and the punches not counting on the counter.

Youtube does not post the whole first round, bummer.

Anyways, I did notice on 2nd viewing that Bute seemed gassed and sloppy right before Golovkin landed his KO punch.

They say every fighter has one last great performance in them before they become shot. Sergio ain't quite shot yet and I believe he does have one last great performance in him provided he gets over the injuries.

If he can roll back the years and pull out a great performance this fight has the potential to be one of the greats. The styles would gel perfectly for me and I would be delighted to see this fight made.

If Sergio isn't at his best come fight night I can only see a Golovkin win by KO, I'm sure most would agree with that. However, if Sergio brings his A game and it is possible he could, he ain't shot yet then as I say this fight would be an absolute classic, guaranteed fight of the year and I would never bet against Sergio v anyone when at his best. Two great fighters, one in his prime, one still capeable, lets hope this fight gets made and Sergio can come in somewhere near his best.

Motivation may also have seen Sergio not be at his best in recent fights, we all know when fighters achieve a lot they need big names in there to 'get up' for the fight, Martin Murray isn't a big name for someone like Sergio. A fight v Golovkin would be huge, a chance for Sergio to cement his legacy even further so I'd imagine he'd train that bit harder and come in somewhere near his best. (hopefully!)
