Sergio Martinez said something about Cotto

Highly doubt he was being serious with his comments. He was just talking smack to promote the fight.

 

cotto seems like he could be kind of an ornery dickhead behind the scenes....dunno...i have no beef with cotto at all....but he seems like a guy that could be a real ******* when the cameras are off....seems like a guy that keeps a real close/tight circle and doesnt trust alot of people

Cotto probably has a hard time with the fame just like most famous people. Except in Puerto Rico it's probably a lot harder to hide from, it's not like they have this huge area for the privileged where they don't have to deal with the commoners like the U.S. (else you'd about a lot more famous people being "pricks") Tito handled it seamlessly, but that is the exception and not the norm, unfortunately for Cotto that is a bar that Tito set and he is now being judged by.

Him being non sociable (a "*****") in public I'm sure is his way of ensuring the public doesn't kill his time so that he spend it with his family. Come to think of it, Tito didn't have a regular family life, the people were his family, hugely different for Cotto and Tito and unfair for the P.R.'s to take Tito and say this is what you should be like, Cotto.

 

As much as I hate them both, at least Kneeguel did not have a child out of wedlock. Cheatoe did. :deal

we really don't know how guys are in reality. One guy I thought was a nice guy when I was younger, but after talking to him I don't think so much is Evander Holyfield. But I met him a few times, and my friend did also.

 

It's a bit of both. I don't think Sergio said that to sell the fight. When cotto started getting popular he abandoned his old team and built his own gym. Which is fine if those people were dicks but they were not. They really supported and helped him while he was coming up. I have alot of friends in San juan that are from cottos hometown and they all hate him. And it's not out of jealousy or "hating" these people are successful and are not envious people. They just feel he did the community dirty. It's quite common to see cotto out for lunch in and around San juan and the way he interacts with people can be perceived as shy or as a dick. I've met him a few times at juan Salgados tattoo shop in Santurce and he was fine with me but I can see why people think he's a dick. Which is why Sergio said it.

 

Just talked to my Mom in P.R. (I know it's father's day...lol) she said everyone she knew was going for Cotto against Sergio. Talking to her it would seem the relationship with Cotto and the people is fine, then I talk to my Dad there and it's a whole different story, haven't talked to him since the Sergio fight though. Seems you get mixed stories because either some people feel more disrespected by the fact he will not associate with the common people and others not.

 

Love Cotto but I hear he's pretty short with people who try to approach him. But if you have people trying to get up in your business all the time even if it's because they like you I can understand.

 

That's part of it rik but he's also wronged people which I mentioned in my previous post. I felt like the bar I was in, el barril, was the perfect microcosm for how the people feel, it was 50/50.

 

Cotto is pretty arrogant

 

Cotto seems like a bit of a bully. When he fought Jennings and Gomez he really looked like he was enjoying beating the **** out of them.

I like him as a boxer. But there may be some truth to Martinez's words.

 

Cotto needs to work on his PR relations in PR, then. Maybe he can donate to charity or do charity work, lol.
