It's possible they could get a belt however I don't think either would ever have great success against genuine world class opponents.

In taking the Martinez fight he will probably lose, but in the process he will boost internationally his name which will help him financially down the line.

I don't think it makes sense for him to take this fight. There's a slight chance Macklin beats Sturm and Barker is most certainly on his radar. He'd make more money fight Geale in Oz on PPV. That's a fight he has a much better chance of winning.

He should hold out and wait for better options, not to mention, he could do with fighting someone borderline world class to prepare him.

    Couldn't agree more.

This is what is wrong with boxing today.

He got a chance (supposedly) to step it up. So step up.

He's had enough fights to know what he is doing. Yes he hasn't been in with someone of the class of Martinez but he has to step up sometime.

    Darren has got good skills.

Martinez is one of my fav current fighters an is obviously a massive favourite. But Darren is reasonably untested, which means we still don't know wether he will pass or fail.

I wouldn't write Darren off completely, I've always thought he might turn out to be a bit special. He is massive at the weight as well. Though obviously that did Williams little favours!!!

Barker would beat Chavez Jr IMO.

Mainly because I think Chavez Jr is ****!!!

So true. People are talking like Barker is at Matthew Hatton level just a **** fighter....and that Martienz has been blowing everyone away in 2 rounds like he did to Williams.

Martinez wins but not by 1 round KO.

I think Barker is just on the fringe of the top 10.

But really the division is basically full of people that just don't want anything to do with Martinez and are content to hide behind a title to swell the coffers.

Barker would beat Macklin, Chavez and Zbik relatively easily. He'd be favourite over Geale and Sylvester, 50-50ish with Lee. Martinez would obviously be the favourite but upsets do happen.

Although Martinez would win (comfortably IMHO) Barker is no worse than most of the other likely candidates for a title shot. I guess it makes sense for him to wait for Mackin-Sturm to pan out though.

Based on recent fights I think Barker would be the slight fav against Lee.
