Understandable that Arum would not want Manny to fight him. Manny is a JWW who can fight WW. His legacy is sealed and his place in history secured.

Understandable that FLoyd would avoid him. He wants big money fights and wants to keep his '0'. Legacy don't pay the bills.

Understandable Angulo, Canelo and Chavez will avoid him. They want to build their careers and Martinez will stop them in their tracks.

Basically, Sergio is the most avoided champion in boxing.

you can't really say "most avoided fighter below 160" because that'll mean every weight class below 160... which he can't even make... maybe you can say most avoided from 154 to 160... that sounds more accurate.

but to answer your question, NO... not the most avoided.. just the most poorly managed star. :deal

i know people hate TR or GB but if he signed with them, he'd be a household name right now... :yep

HOw is he the most avoided when he blantantly avoids Angulo, Quillen, and Pirog?

Sergio is hype, got a lucky break in fighting drunk Pavlik and has squandered all the momentum he had.

Martinez unfortunatley has fallen into that bracket of fighters looking for a better payday than a better opponent , sure i understand the logic , sure i understand the thought process , but i still dont agree with it .

The talk of him dropping to 154 would counter that argument , but its ****in ludicrus to think of Martinez making 54 nowadays , not only that but fighting animals such as Pacquiao or Mayweather at that weight is just plain stupid , its desperation for paydays , it stinks !!!

This is a guy who will make 6 figures fighting a European champion with zero world credentials , thats not a bad situation to be in , he's one of the best paid fighters in the sport today and he should be happy with it

There's big fights for Martinez in the next 3 years even under Di Bella , he should focus on 160 or above

I love Quillin but Sergio hasn't avoided him. Good chance that fight comes off next year. Pete needed to get some rounds in this year before seriously stepping up. He's pretty much there.

Angulo turned down Sergio in 2010 and then was inactive for a year. Not sure where you are coming from.

Pirog is a stiff, his belt is made of paper and worthless. He and Barker both suck. Sergio is champion at a time when the division is barren.

Martinez needs to get it on with Pirog build a MW legacy and eventually 1 of the LMWs/WWs will face him

Yes Sergio is avoided by guys in lower weight classes. He is a MW challenging WW's.

Would love to see a SMW or LHW call him out. That is basically what Sergio is doing.

He is the 160 pound champion. Why is he looking for guys below his weight class? Pirog, Kid chocolate, golovkin are all worthy challengers for him at 160.

I wonder why he cant get a bit better exposure, get him on some Argentian talk shows build his following if he brings money to the table the big money fights will come.

Then fight someone like Pirog and build up your momentum again. You need to constantly remind the fans and media that you are the man.

I feel his has fallen a little flat.....

I would love to see him fight Floyd I think that would be a very interesting fight!

I wouldn't say Floyd and emmanuel are ducking him to be fair. They're TWO weight divisions behind Sexy Sergio and neither were at their most impressive when they decided to try out 154.

yea, he should definitely be fighting more than twice a year. Stay busy, especially if you are fighting weaker competition.

Being avoided is ovverated. Martinez still needs to show consistency and should not lose to the likes of Quintana,...and..himself.
