Over on the Scene of Boxing, it's being reported that Team Margarito are looking to acquire the services of Sergio Martinez in their preperation for Pacquiao. Garcia, Margo's trainer, had this to say:

"I'm very close to Sergio Martinez' camp and he is such a great person and they offered to help us out with whatever we need. I know that he is fighting Paul Williams, who is totally the opposite of Antonio Margarito, but he may be coming a couple days a week to camp. So more than likely we will be having Sergio Martinez as one of our sparring partners. We'll have another four to five sparring partners but Martinez will be one of them. As of now that is what his coach and his team have already told me."

What do you guys think? Not a bad person to have as a sparring partner. Considering Tony's weaknesses against southpaws, and Martinez' brilliant in and out movement around the ring, I think he'll be pretty useful at imitating Pac's style.

It can go down considering how close the camps are.

Martinez = poor man's version of emmanuel.

    He's more cerebral and adaptive.

After he swepped aside Pavlik, I swear Martinez was pushing for a second fight with Margarito to avenge his first career loss.

Oh snap! That came out of nowhere, but the sparring would be best for both. Martinez is a fast, hard punching southpaw and Margarito, while not having an effective outside game, does like going toe to toe like Williams does. Then with the history Sergio and Margarito have, you know leather's gonna be flying and some great sparring sessions in the making. Hopefully someone will get this on video.

That's terrible sparring, Martinez is a rangy slickster, no similarities with Pac other than being a southpaw with handspeed. Maravilla should focus on Williams anyway - if Punished ever decides to sign - and only spar lefties himself. It's still a sparring I'd love to see on tape just not a very good choice since Tony should prepare with short-range in-out fighters like Victor Ortiz.

margarito isnt THAT different from P dub. I think some people could definitely argue that he's closer to paul than sergio is to pacquiao.

    I think it's good.

If AM can corner and trap and unload his punches on Martinez consistently, it's gonna help out a lot to sharpen him up against a quick, mobile, fast punching little guy.

This will do nothing to prepare him for Pacquiao. Very different fighters.

They'll say Paul is a southpaw, so it makes all the difference in the world.

How does a middleweight mimic the actions of a midget?

This is all wrong for margarito, he needs to fight someone around pac size, someone like zab judah would be a better choice.

It's not like he'll be the main sparmate.

Just someone to change it up a bit, 2 times a week.

But still have the quickness, movement and southpaw angles to sharpen up AM's eyes and reaction time in the ring.
