I think hopkins would time martinez early on and sergio won't have that big a speed advantage to negate hopkins timing.

I had hopkins winning the first taylor fight and the calz fight but he was in his 40's for them so that's not the hopkins i'd use as a fantasy fighter.

The one from johnson, holmes, tito was a very well rounded fighter.

Maybe martinez takes the first round but other than that he'll only take rounds that hopkins takes off.

Martinez has had a big speed advantage over everyone he's fought so far which is why he's looked so marvelous.

I don't see anyone on the horizon who'd trouble him at mw because noone possesses the right mix of attributes imo.

Still think i'd favour him over la motta though.

Need to consider the other's in more detail but robinson, apostoli and hopkins beat him imo.

    Pirog presents an interesting match-up.

I'm pretty sure it was Sweet_Scientist who said a while ago that he'd favor peak Fernando Vargas over Martinez. Frankly, I'm inclined to agree with him. Sergio's a very good fighter, nothing more. A solid technical pressure fighter like Vargas, who has most of the right attributes, would likely turn the trick. Sergio hasn't done anything to suggest he could overcome any real top level talent so far.

He's done nothing to suggest he'd beat anyone decent.

If I was to make a list of potential opponents i'd like to see, he wouldn't be very high on it.

Outclassing cintron, pavlik and williams suggests an awful lot to me.

Plus he has solid victories over dzindzuruk, barker, martinez and benzema (don't think that's the right name but it's close enough )

Give him chavez, sturm and geale next and i'd probably call him a mw great.

Pavlik and Williams were solid wins, but not really the others.Dzin was already badly faded and just being cashed in ie old Grigorian against Freitas. The rest are pretty limited foes.

not that you can't still end up being rated highly despite fighting in a weak period for the division.Best to wait and see, though Martinez is at the age he could start to slip very quickly with his style, even without a lot of gruelling fights to his name.

It's not like today's middleweight division is stacked with Monzons and Haglers.

There's also Golovkin who still is a dark horse like Pirog.

These are two fighters many people (or rather hardcore fans i should say) want to see Martinez against.

Chavez avoids Martinez like a plague.

Geale lost to Mundine and is not considered as a serious threat to Martinez.

Sturm avoids GGG for years never mind Martinez.

Sturm is a Euro-level fighter. Golovkin has looked more impressive against similar contender types that Sturm is facing, in Ouma and Simon.

Neither of them two interest me at all tbh.

Apparently though pirog and geale are due to fight each other so that'll answer questions about each other :good

Dzin is apparently fighting trout next so that'll give an indication to how much he has left.

I thought it was a very good win at the time and a masterful performance.

Showtime already rejected the idea of two unknown foreign fighters fighting each other.

    Hopefully HBO will do better.

Sturm aside, Golovkin's performance against Ouma didn't looked that impressive.

Yes, GGG stopped usually durable past-prime veteran but looked somewhat limited doing it.

Although he blamed his sloppy performance on being sick/unprepared going into the fight.
