Does anyone know how much a guy like martinez gets paid for a fight like this?

The only logical explanation I can come up with for this fight is that DiBella wants to force Chavez to at least have to fight his other guy Manfredo. Rubio was probably the best of the available opponents in my view, but beyond that I don't think any of the other beltholders are interested and/or available.

HBO doesn't want Pirog and that's a fact reported by Rafael and others. They could've built on Pirog's big win but they never called him back, now a year and a really bad performance later chances of HBO calling Dmitry who I like are close to 0. In reality the only reason Pirog ever appeared on HBO was him being the other guy next to Jacobs named by the WBO to pick up the vacant belt, he was supposed to lose. He didn't, but it seems HBO doesn't care either way which is sad.

I can only laugh at people suggesting Martinez denies fights based on risk/reward ratio. It fits in the category of the Klitschkos are ducking Valuev, Bute only wants bums or Saul Alvarez is a cherry picker. It almost fits only it's complete rubbish.
And where did you pulled that out from?

Barker really isn't a bad fight. He's shown that he's clearly beyond European level so what is the issue with him getting a world title shot? It's not like there are many guys out there for Martinez to face and the ones who aren't available, probably aren't much better than Barker. It may be sacrilege since Pirog is loved on ESB, but I really think Barker would beat him.

Not yet but looks likely. Martinez has been to meet HBO and has called Barker out.

The 2 million figure was from Gabriel Montoya's article "The Uncertain Future of Sergio Martinez," which I think is a really well done piece that's worth reading if you haven't already. Here is the relevant passage:

Sore spot with Boo since Martinez wouldn't go up four pounds to rematch Pavlik.

why does he have to? that fight was not controversial or extremely close, martinez won fair and square, pavlik should focus on getting in the mix at 168 and challenge bute or the kessler/stieglitz winner.

If he can make 154 still.... a weight both fighters he called out have won titles at then why not make the fights? If he was coming off a loss or looked like **** in his last fight he would probably already be signed up to fight one or the other anyways. He wants the money and it aint at 168 thats why.

He CAN'T make 154 anymore and has refused to go that low to make these fights. So, let him move up a few pounds and make a money fight.
