Sturm is something of an enigma. On his best day, he has an airtight defense and can be very difficult for the best middleweights out there. On other days, he fights his opponents' fight. Martinez is more consistent and therefore I lean towards him, but if Sturm fights a very disciplined fight, it is going to be extremely close.

Martinez UD. Much busier boxer. I think sergios constant movement and pivots would give sturm fits along with every middle weight in the division imo. Serigios #1

Sturm only comes forward when he fights very one dimensional opponents, Sylvester, Masoe until built a lead, tomato cans like Sato etc. When he takes on guys who can box he isnt much more than jab and defense with is by far not enough to beat someone like Martinez, too skilled, variable, mobile, fast, strong etc. He barely beat Gevor that way. He tried to fight with Castillejo and got ko´d. So depends on his gameplan whether he would lose on points or get ko´d but I dont see how a vitory should come into his reach in this one.

Right now I'd make Martinez a heavy favorite. Sturm looked like crap in his last fight, and he hasn't fought in over a year. The version of Sturm that fought Oscar would probably beat Martinez.

Styles make fights. Sturm has a very well timed jab which frustrated a hell of a lot stationary and coming forward type of fighters, but Martinez is a whole different animal. He's excellent neutralizing the jab, has a healthy reach advantage, he's very mobile and quickhanded, and is very, VERY good picking one-dimensional fighters apart. I consider Sturm a highly skilled, but single rhythm fighter who can be figured out in a couple of rounds for a smart adaptive operator such as Maravilla. The Mayweather, Calzaghes and Maravillas will always dominate these kind of fighters.

OK. I'll pick Sturm in this one. He didn't look good against a guy big enough to get inside and stay there, but this isn't Martinez's game. Sturm is a decent boxer and is now training with Roach. Not sure why this bout isn't being tossed about....

The Sturm that fought Oscar would make the fight a war but I wouldnt say he beats Maravilla. It would be a great fight.
