Meat on the bone?. Simply Martinez is the better fighter and that will be shown on the night.

the only bet in chavez's favour is that sergio might get old over night....thats just not worth putting money on in my opinion.

chavez is raw, only fought one southpaw at any form of world class, he's had trouble against boxers. guy who have been beaten by other fighters after his fight.


why this makes it a bigger match is that it has an aura where the torch can be passed on gracefully to a young challenger.

sergio is a FAR better boxer, has far more expereince, has the skills and sharpness and has enough power to keep chavez honest.

it will be a great event. and chavez i think could be able to just brawl foreward and catch sergio. i dont doubt juliotito can catch him and start swinging. i just doubt the process of him getting sergio in that position.

 

Martinez is a good fighter no doubt about it, but for me he gets massively over-rated, Barker and Macklin where both doing very well against him before the stoppages, Chavez is alot bigger and seems to be improving with each fight.

Martinez in a fun, action-filled fight. Jr will have moments in the middle rounds but isn't fighting Andy Lee this time. Lee, never a natural boxer or mover, couldn't sustain his tactics. Sergio can, and will use his speed, mobility and underrated power to punish the Mexican towards a clear UD win or a late corner stoppage.

 

I see it like you do.

Sergio gets hit. PPL act like he's got some impregnable defense and he's a loaded machine gun firing 100 power shots/rd.

He's outslicked by guys like Williams, pushed around by guys like Barker, and yeah, he wins these fights, but he's coming up against a kid in JR who is stronger than any other fighter he's faced. JRs chin is thus far, uncrackable. And his abilities to impose his will, ie, put his guy on the ropes or cut him off into the corner are being proven more solid vs every good fighter he's faced.

Martinez will hokey dokey him a bit in the feel out rounds, but from about the 4th on, Chavez will key in on Martinez footwork and start trapping him and the tide will turn.
From about the 7th on, Chavez unrelenting body attack will have slowed Martinez down and he'll be throwing one or two shots at a time, and the bounce will disappear as he's led to the ropes or corner where he'll cover while JR throws 15 unanswered body, arm, and head shots.

By the 9th or 10th, Martinez will be headhunting and gasping for air and a straw. He'd either quit on his stool, or he'll eat a liver shot that drops him for good. If he can sustain thru the 7 rds of punishment, he may make the final bell, losing an 116-113 or 115-113 type decision.:think

 

Can't give Jr much of a chance here. Martinez is is more likely to be troubled good, skillfull boxers with a decent jab rather than overgrown plodders like Chavez. Only way I see SM losing is by robbery, getting old over night or walking onto something silly.
