It was actually the 7th anniversary of Cripple Crusher Cotto winning his first world title from a cripple yesterday too. On the 6th of June, 2010, he won the WBA light-middleweight strap from a one-legged featherfisted Rabbi who entered the ring wearing a brace on his gammy right knee and had to be wheeled into the ring in a wheelchair by his cornerman.

And then almost four years to the day later he won his second world title against another cripple but up at middleweight when he fought Cripple Sergio who had two gammy knees not one.

Look for Cripple Crusher Cotto to win his third belt against a cripple up at 168 around this time in June 2018.

Harsh but 100% true. Pinky couldn't beat a one eyed Tony Margarito could be lol The crooked NY doc had to stop the fight to save Cotto quitting AGAIN !!!!!!

Martinez was done for, he was badly injured before the fight, a prime Martinez would easily have knocked him out cold....................

A classic cherry pick gone wrong.
    Thanks for remembering this fight.

People who give Cotto no credit for this win forget they were all predicting Sergio would knock Cotto out. They also overlook the fact that Cotto was the only Hall of Famer their Sergio ever fought.

Funny how Cotto wouldnt fight Martinez for years. All of a sudden he finally got motivated to fight him after Martinez had his umpteenth knee surgery and whose career was openly on the rocks due to his body breaking down. Funny how that works.

I love the excuses of Sergio fans. To hear them tell it, Sergio was the first fighter to ever come into the ring on a stretcher and go out on it. And they're all highly credentialed orthopedic specialists with access to Sergio's medical records. In Spanish, of course.

The knee excuse became popular after the fact because so many people had overrated Sergio so much, and had predicted Sergio would give Cotto such a beating, that they were extremely embarrassed when he was exposed by Cotto. They will tell you that Sergio's knees caused him to get hit by Cotto's left hook in the first round. Which by the way Sergio said he never recovered from. They'll never mention that.

But look at all the people who knocked Sergio down: Chavez, Murray, Macklin, Paul Williams, Richard Williams (!), Margarito, and God knows who else. Was it because of his knees? No. It was because he had a weak chin, poor defense and he fought with his hands down. Were any of these guys who knocked him down Hall of Fame fighters? No. Was Cotto? Yes. Had Cotto's career been rejuvenated by Roach? Yes. Did Cotto have the right game plan? Yes, he did. Roach even said before the fight, "Of course my guy is going to win the fight. The guy fights with his hands down."

And no one can ever actually show anywhere in the fight where Sergio was not moving well. And they all collectively forget that Sergio was moving well enough to win at least the sixth round. They'll never mention that either.

And the saddest thing about Sergio's fans was how badly they treated him after he lost the fight. Before the fight they were always talking about what a great guy Sergio was. He did this charity and helped that little girl. They would make threads on this site dozens of pages long talking about how much they wanted to blow him.

But when he was exposed by Cotto, you wouldn't believe how they trashed him. Their favorite thing to say was that Sergio knew he would lose the fight, took their money and "cashed out". That Sergio was a lying con artist. And then they all turned against Cotto, who before that had been one of their favorite fighters. But that's how embarrassed they were. And to this day.

Hold on.. Are you saying Cotto forgot to send someone to smash Canelo knee prior to their meet lol?
Don't be so harsh on Cotto, he had his share of beatdown on the hand of pac and margarito.
Martinez cash out on his lineal belt and I think Cotto is a reasonable choice.

Its odd to see people try and say they can watch that fight and 'honestly' not see a fighter with bad knees  Its actually almost laughable. Literally, how can you watch that and see a guy whose knees arent bothering him.... much easier to believe every single writer, boxing fan, and fighter, who acknowledges what they knew pre fight, what they saw during the fight, and the info that came out after the fight, are actually just diehard Sergio fanatics... not just boxing fans using critical thinking and also just... watching the fight lol.

Its also odd to see people try and act like his knees werent a known factor before the fight

Nope, the 40 year old, constantly injured, visibly hampered Sergio was just fine... he was so fine he actually retired after the fight instead of even taking a farewell fight at home.

His knees were so bad they literally retired him. But nah.... nothing to see here folks his knees were fine
