Disappointing but foreseeable fight. Martinez was my favorite fighter at the time and I didn't even order it on PPV. I felt basically there was an extremely slim range of health Martinez could be at where the fight would actually be competitive. Anything above that threshold and he knocks Cotto out and anything below and he gets dominated like he actually was.

I wish his knees weren't as bad as they actually were both because I would've liked to have seen him continue fighting and because I believe he would've been willing to fight Golovkin afterwards.

The knee injuries were a major factor in Martinez's defeat, but Cotto's jab and left hook also helped him get the win.

i remember watchin the 24/7 with martinez camp been pretty much in a hotel gym and the rest of it was stretching and havin massages on his legs
then there was the appeal to wear a knee brace that was rejected,, anyone who says that martinez's knees were just an excuse are been ridiculous, he was done but still went out giving it his all

didnt he fight twice in 3 years before the cotto fight inbetween serious knee surgeries? the last time we saw the proper sergio was the chavez fight before his knee gave way later in that fight

he was lucky to get away with the murray fight and should of called it a career there

I think Cripple Crusher Cotto thinks of it like the Olympics, he'll win the gold medal at his own personal Cripple Crushing Olympics every 4 years and he wants to become a x 3 gold Cripple Crusher gold medalist at 3 different weights lol

So many salty haters here those are the same that became haters of Danny Garcia when He beat Matthysse ass. CST80 had always been a hater and Kirk was picking Sergio to destroy Cotto even knowing Sergio was injured.

Disgraceful fight, Martinez knew his knee was shot and still conned the fans for a ppv.

He did. But like I've said before, he let the whole bad side of boxing work for him once, cashing out and riding into the sunset.
I would have probably done the same if I were him. No, my knees are totally fine! Nothing wrong with them!
Why am I leaning against this chair, and why am I wearing these knee braces? Just a precaution, because you never know right?! I'm in the best shape of my life!

Honestly I have no issues with Sergio supporters keying in on his depreciated knees. What truly troubles me is the lack of appreciation regarding Cotto's offensive execution on that very night. Cotto was also thought to be a shell of his former self and competing two weight divisions above his optimal weight. Let's not throw in the fact that approximately 70% of this board literally said even with one leg Sergio was going to blast through Cotto. Humility is a virtue and some folks just don't have it, you've been wrong before and you'll likely be wrong again the best way to cope with an inaccurate prediction shouldn't involve excuses and denial it should be taken as an opportunity to enhance your boxing apperception. I was shocked by the analysis of some so called pundits on theses boards regarding this fight....it's clear as day that Cotto was the superior operator and Sergio's advatges where merely physical (not so physically with his knees) P4p Cotto outboxes even a 100% healthy Sergio, Cotto just has superior craft plain and simple. Better craft and superior schooling lasts longer than athleticism and explosive power.
