Sure, Martinez does, when he's baiting his opponent and he feels like they are outside his range.

Yes, 6'2" Barker had some success with his jab, considering his long reach, but other than that, he fought a scared conservative fight, and didn't commit to much of anything, still lost on the cards, but it didn't matter, because he got knocked the **** out.

When Martinez has to, he puts his guard up and protects himself.

If Oscar is stupid, he can assume that Martinez is so easy to hit, and find himself lunging at a much more elusive opponent than he thought, and eating a hard counterpunch for his trouble.

Don't bother. Debating w/ DiamondClit is like staring into an empty pool.

    Ya'll win.

A straight up and down hands out in front of your face style, with extreme aggressiveness is the best way to beat Martinez, especially when you're the smaller man.

    Wow...

This site has gone to ****.

"Yeah dude, he's just gonna like throw a left hook real easy, and knock Martinez out, dude."

:blood WTF??? Are you seriously trying to compare a washed up, weight drained Oscar to Martinez?? Its well known fact that the Oscar you've just mentioned was weight drained and his better days were behind him.

Out of curiosity, can you explain why you feel Martinez style helps him against ODH?

De La Hoya by a mile.

Keep in mind Macklin and Barker both had a lot of success against Sergio it was not so much because they were bigger than Martinez it was because they were both able to control the distance better than Martinez.
De La Hoya is clearly several levels above MM or DB in terms of skill.

I understand that Oscar was past his prime, but I saw the same style he always uses.

I can see how that style would put him at a signficant disadvantage against Martinez.

While Oscar was past his prime, you can still learn things from that fight.

Most people on this site don't know **** about boxing or understand a damn thing about styles though, so what's the point of debating...

What the **** are people going to say if Martinez knocks Chavez out?

Are they going to change their tune?

    This site...man...I ****in swear.

There has got to be better boxing sites than this ****.

ODLH leagues ahead. You are talking about a good fighter (sometime overrated) in Martinez vs an absolute ATG and HOF in ODLH...

So just because people arent agreeing with you, that means that the site is full of dummies?:patsch

First off, Martinez is not stopping Jr...If he can keep him at bay Martinez could win. Martin is going to have to avoid that left hook from Chavez and he has to be effective when he let his hands go against Chavez...Chavez has shown to have a sturdy chin so I highly doubt Martinez stops Chavez.

You're right, styles makes fights and Oscar is a bad match-up for Martinez if you actually look at what Oscar brings to the table...A solid jab, nice defense in which he picks off shots and he has a serious left hook, and decent pop to his punches to keep his opponents honest...With Martinez always keeping his hands waste, he's gonna eat jabs all night long and I dont see him getting off on Oscar like you're trying to make him out to be...Hell, Barker had some success from picking off some Martinez shots..and you honestly think that Oscar couldnt replicate that gameplan??? Oscar is going to counter the **** out of Martinez.

I suppose I could, but I'm not sure if I would be doing myself a favor by explaining to people how to box.

If you're really interested, I could give a you a PM, but personally, I don't like teaching people how to box.

I don't trust anybody. You teach somebody something, they end up bein a punk ass bully and using it to beat up weaker people.

As it stands, the less people that understand boxing, the easier it is for me to make money from it.

What I would suggest that you do, is watch Pacquaio vs Oscar, look at Oscar's straight up and down style, and picture a faster Oscar to be fair, but also picture a longer, bigger, more destructive fighter.

Watch Sergio's style, and see what he excels at. Look where there are openings in Oscar's style.

    His style is the same...

It doesn't matter that he was past his prime. The style still has the same weaknesses that could be exploited by a southpaw fighter with Martinez style and physical attributes.

Every style has strengths and weaknesses...for the most part.

If Oscar attacks Martinez like people on this forum are implying that he will, that would weigh heavily in Martinez' favor.

He would consistantly hit Oscar with that straight left hand to the body and eventually take that attack upstairs and start landing combinations.

The fight would not last long.

Oscar is not Margarito. He's not going to take the beating of a lifetime to beat this guy.

He's going to get on his bike, and try to outbox Martinez. Now, If Martinez was an aggressive slugger style fighter, this would work.

But Martinez is a patient, aggressive fighter who will have reach advantage, and hits hard enough to make almost any fighter tenative.

Oscar defenitely will be wary of his power. Oscar will have to fight this fight to survive. He has to stay on the outside and not make any mistakes.

That is the only way he can make this fight competitive, but I still don't think that's enough to win.

If people disagree, that's okay, but ****...

Telling me that Oscar is just going to blitz Martinez is some of the dumbest **** I've ever heard.

    LOL.

You don't know what you're talking about. Maybe it's because your lack of experience.

Here the situation, Barker did not run, nor did he counter Martinez.

He used his superior size to pressure Martinez very slowly, but maintaining his distance.

The fact that he had a size advantage over Martinez contributed to his success.

Oscar doesn't have this luxury. Even Barker was getting repeatedly tagged to the body with straight left hands, despite the fact that he had a signficant size advantage and good jab.

If Oscar attempts to do this, he'll be in Martinez range. Unlike Barker, Oscar HAS to get into Martinez' range in order to effectively attack Martinez.

This is exactly what Martinez wants. He gives the illusion of being easy to hit, but in reality, he's setting up counterpunches. And he will simeltaneously be walking around the ring, and strafing Oscar to his body with hard left hands.

Slowly breaking him down because Oscar has his hands up and out, which leaves a hole for that left hand to get through.

Martinez will utilize his speed and his reach, and effectively tag Oscar all night, breaking him down, and then beggning to land more and more combinations. He will start looping that right hand and even his left, after he sets it up, with a jab, around Oscar's guard.

In order for Oscar to land that left hook, he has to get close enough to do it. Martinez footwork, body punching, and his power, will make Oscar very tenative, unless he is stupid.

This means that Oscar will take this fight on the outside. He will attempt to outbox Martinez. And while there is a slight possiblity this could happen, it's unlikely because Martinez will apply, slow, intellgeint pressure, and continue to break Oscar down with his straight left hand until he is in range to throw combinations.

He will at times stand in front of Oscar, and bait him with his hands down, but Oscar must be in Martinez range in order to land on Martinez. Martinez wants you to take risks.

This is how he works. He relys on counterpunching.

If you think Oscar can somehow beat Martinez on the outside, mainly by running, you could have an argument. I suppose that's possible.

I don't think we should discount this. Certainly, it will make for a closer fight.

Either way, I don't think Oscar has what it takes to beat Martinez.

 So because I'm not agreeing with this I dont know ****??? You are one funny boy CAPSFUND.:rofl

I love how you didnt address my post about his hands being low! Have you ever heard of doubling up the jab to close the distance??? You keep on neglecting that simple little part...Oscar has the jab to keep Martinez honest...You're serioulsy overestimating Martinez and you're underrating Oscar.

You call it running but its using your strenghts, why would you make yourself a sitting duck if you can use your legs to avoid unwarranted punishement?? Yet, I'm the one who doesnt know ****!

You say he'll stand in front of Oscar with his hands down and bait him in...NOT gonna happen...I can guarentee you that Oscar will jab the **** out of Martinez once he tries this.

I said all that I can say. He can use a double jab, a triple jab, a 5 uple jab.

I don't give a damn, what he does. It ain't gonna work. Martinez is too good, too slick, too hard a puncher. And he proved to me he's a warrior too.

It's a bad matchup. Anyway...there is really nothing else I can say. I'm not going to start breaking down film.

    That's unecessary.

 Again, how is he gonna avoid it since you keep on speculating its not gonna work? Yet you constantly keep on saying people dont know ****.

I know you wont becaue you dont have a point.:hi:
