Well, the draw is widely considered a robbery and the loss was very close (I had Martinez edging it) to a top fighter, so they shouldn't have deceived Pavlik and his management too much about Martinez quality.

Yes, he could beat Martinez.. Stylewise he was too tough for Martinez. But he didn't beat Hearns,Benitez at that weight or higher. I never said Duran was not great, I said he was not top 10 ATG.. I think Duran would have the right hand to hit Martinez with and the skills to win.

So your saying Sergio Martinez is elite? Sorry I must have missed that one because the Sergio Martinez I've seen is good for his era, far from elite in all eras.

Martinez isn't even in the same league as Roberto in an ATG sense, but this is at MW, so who knows.

Prime Martinez too much. Excellent foot work and volume. Unlike Barkley, this matchup is much tougher for Duran.

Yeah he is. How many better middleweights in that era who used movement can you name?

Anyone who beats the best competition in his era for 2+ years is elite in his division.
Now I didn't just say elite MW I said elite MW boxer/mover which narrows it down even further until Martinez easily fits the bill even if you don't rate him.

    I said,

Will he make the hall of fame? I say no, but he's worthy of a nomination for it. Duran and his fans have their share of excuses. He wasn't a legendary fighter at above welter.

For example he lost to Laing and Benefit at super welter, and Sims at middle.

I read what you said, I just disagree. There are so many deserving fighters already on the IBHOF ballot that will likely never get in. Mathematically, I don't see any legitimate argument for Sergio making the hall of fame unless there are literally zero worthy fighters over the next 50 years. I don't even think Martinez is even more worthy than say, his fellow countryman, Jorge Castro.
