Don't think Zale or LaMotta can do in Martinez, I think he'd beat both wide. Both would struggle to pin down Sergio, who is quite fast and moves very well. Fullmer and Basilio, I don't know. Pick em. Sergio definitely has the skills to outbox them, and he didn't get lured into brawls like SRR did, but he also didn't have the firepower that Robinson did, and would need to fight a very, very good fight every single round to control things. I think the rest beat him. Tiger and Monzon do it cause I think the style matchups might be in their favor, because the low hands of Martinez represent the openings the like to pray on. When Sergio lapsed in attention, Pavlik started to land until his focus returned, and I think Monzon could find the same openings and likely put Maravilla away with them. Hagler and Robinson, too skilled, too powerful. They could put powerful punches flush on his chin, and that served both Antonio Margarito and Paul Williams well enough on the occasions Martinez was beaten. Against these two wrecking balls, I don't think he had the skills to play keep away forever, and doesn't have the fire power to stop them before they brought the pain.
Martinez has to prove himself more substantially in my opinion. It's way too soon to adequately judge him vs these guys from the past. I'm not too sure that he would beat Fullmer, for instance...and in time he could prove that he very well could have..but as for now, i dunno.
