Sergio certainly accomplished more at the weight, that is for certain. Certainly leaning to him catching Hearns at some time.
I really don't want to wright Tommy off with that Chin ..but it's gotta be a deciding factor in this. Is it to lazy just to say Hearns gets clobbered at middle by any hard hitter? Sergio I reckon would come out like Hagler trying to blast him out .And this is where Hearns could prove he can box the head off Martinez .Or he could meet him head on and throw caution to the wind .If it's the former then Hearns may and I mean may get a points win. If its the latter and he goes hell for leather ,then I see Hearns being battered through the rope's .
I go with Hearns. Martinez was not in Hearns class. I think Tommy wins a late round knockout or decision.
If it got to the scorecards then Martnez would make it close on sheer volume, could even stop Hearns late with a bit of luck, only problem is is I don't see how he makes it that far. His first fight with Paul Williams is exceptional and just downright fun to watch. It's a shame that boxing's worst scorecard (except for maybe Byrd's in the GGG-Alvarez fight) was produced that night. 119-110 if I'm not mistakened.
I pick Martinez if the fight happened during the Williams-Dzinzurik-Pavlik window. Hearns was pretty sloppy at 160. I think Hearns would beat 154 Martinez and the fading version during the last few fights of his reign.
Hearns. And Martinez goes out at some point like Shuler did---via brutal ko defeat. He'll get hit clean by a right hand for a highlight reel ko defeat.
Nobody outboxes Hearns. Martinez lacked the strength or raw power to trouble Hearns . After multi visits to the canvas Martinez is mercifully rescued by referee in 10 rds.
