martinez isn't gonna get past his jab just like that. he has to be very clever because dzinziruks jab is fantastic.

No way. A decent boxer is going to be a tough fight for Martinez. He deals better with pressure fighters. A textbook boxer is trouble for Martinez.

IMO he is among the best in boxing at adapting to the fight. He makes adjustments rd by rd according to what his corner tells him.

Dzinziruk's jab is being highly overrated.

Against subpar opposition his jab has been taken away by head movement and especially ducking, something Martinez does in abundance.

In addition, any previous advantage Dzinziruk may have been presumed to have will be nullified because Martinez is a southpaw himself and also holds a significant reach advantage.

This fight is just about non-competitive.

And before you proclaim that Dziziruk is ready for Pavlik who would knock Segiy out by punching right through his guard based off his win against Santos, he has unfinished business at 154, let alone 160.

I don't see him getting passed Cotto who has an even better and more dynamic jab, proven against stronger opposition.

The good thing Martinez has going for him here is that he has about a 7" reach advantage on him if im not mistaken. So he can initiate the action if he wants.

I did not say that Martinez doesn't know how to adapt; however, I said his failure to adapt in the first williams fight cost him the decision.

He proved against Pavlik and in the second Williams fight that he learned and not only can adapt, but is one of the most versatile and dangerous fighters in the game.

I disagree with your stance on Sergiy though. I think his convention belt style is made for Martinez.

I know that I will get a fair amount of criticism by people who say that Sergiy is far too fundamentaly sound to be beaten easily, even by a boxer of Martinez' caliber, but if Sergiy is considered "textbook," Martinez went to a different school; a school designed for the gifted and tallented, and he learned from a different book.

While it is a bit more complicated than this, and from a historical perspective not entirely accurate, contemporary wisdom has designated Sergiy's style as European, and Martinez's style as American.

Both are excellent practitioners of their respective styles and each style has its advantages and disadvantages, but in this particular scenario, Martinez' style in combination with his tallent and athletic ability gives him a distinct advantage over his European counterpart.

In order to understand Martinez' advantage and why he will win the fight in a way that will make it look easy, you need insight into each fighter's style and ability.

Martinez is a fast fighter that uses movement, angles, footwork, and reflexes, to set up his attack and defend against his opponent. He has shown that he is also versatile, able to fight on the outside and recently, on the inside as he proved against Pavlik and Williams. In both William's fights, he also showed that he has underrated if not dangerous power, especially in his left hand. He also brings a good workrate and a high level of conditioning to the table, and the capability to go to war if necessary and has proved this at the highest level.

He does have weaknesses; however, which can be exploited by the right opponent. For instance, in the first Williams vs Martnez fight, Williams used his height, reach, and ability to throw from multiple angles to score on Martinez at range, and ultimately Martinez' failure to adapt cost him the fight, even though many observers felt Martinez deserved to win.

At the same time though, Martinez showed his tallent and ability by going even money mostly on the outside with a tall and awkward fighter who had a significant reach and height advantage.

In the second fight though, Martinez nullified Williams' physical advantages by being more aggressive and fighting inside of William's reach, which made for a quick fight against the formerly undefeated champion.

He used a similiar tactic against Pavlik, fighting both outside and inside, cutting Pavlik and taking away his heart in the process, ripping away the middleweight championship.

Another way to beat Martinez is to maul him and force him to expend energy, while also throwing and awkward angles that are difficult for him to evade. While many believe that Martinez was green, and I don't disagree, Margarito was able to accomplish this.

So while Martinez does have strengths, he also has weaknesses that can be exploited by a particular style and maybe more importantly a particular fighter who must excell within that style.

The question is, does Dzinziruk have what it takes to exploit these weaknesses?

If you analyze Sergiy, you'll see that he stands relativey straight up and down, and uses a classic high guard style, predominated by straight and precise punching, and dictated by an accurate jab. He is a tall fighter at 6'0,'' and rarely gets hits flush, but he is neither awkward or a mauling inside fighter.

And against Martinez, his style will be exploited.

First, you have to start with his level of competition. He hasn't dealt with anybody NEAR Martinez's caliber and he hasn't proved that he can deal with movement. In fact, Lukas Konecny was giving him fits by merely moving his head and ducking, let alone moving his feet and using angles.

Another point is Sergiy won't have a southpaw advantage which can make him awkward and difficult to land on clean especially given his high guard and his opponent's inexperience with southpaw fighters. Considering Martinez's is a southpaw himself, who just fought a top southpaw for the second time in Paul Williams, it won't be an issue.

In fact, the fact that it's two southpaws will nullify any potenial advantage Dziniziruk may of had, which is debateable within itself given the caliber and ability of his opponent. The reason being is that it will give Martinez even more options available that he can set up with the jab.

This is a major part of what it will make this a one sided fight in Martinez' favor. As I've previously stated, Martinez does have weaknesses that can be exploited by the styles I've discussed or a SPECIAL fighter, Dziniziruk is none of these.

He doesn't possess great athletic qualities, his punches are predictable, his angles are neglible, and his defense can be pentrated with the right style and practioner, which Martinez fits both of these descriptions.

Martinez will take away Dziniziruk's jab with his elusiveness and movement, who will find it difficult to tag the small, often ducking target that is Martinez, and every time he shoots it, let alone any other punch he will be open for counterpunches that will come back in sharp, rapid combinations.

In addition, Dziniziruk needs his feet to be set in order to be effective, but Martinez's footwork and angles will make it almost impossible for Dziniziruk to do this without first getting hit, or leaving himself open for counter punches.

This brings me to my overall prediction for the fight.

Dzinziruk will find out immediately that he is in with a different class of opponent and no amount of previous fights or sparring will compensate for his inexperience and inability to adapt. Martinez will take away his jab with hard counterpunches, possibly scoring a flash knockdown in the process, which will make Diniziruk reluctant to throw.

Dzinziruk's activity level will drop drastically in the mid rounds while Sergio fires off rapid combinations, and completely dominates his outclassed opponent. The more Dziniziruk opens up, the greater his chance of being stopped rises.

The likely outcome of this fight is that Dzinziruk survives the distance on a one sided beating, but I would not be surprised if he quits on his stool, his corner throws the towel in, or the ref stops the fight because he's not responding.

This will be a one sided Martinez domination. It may be exciting, but only because Martinez will make it that way, but it will be completely one sided.

Honestly, I think perhaps Dzinziruk should have tested the waters with Pirog who has a lot of potential, but is still green. Honestly, I would probably give Pirog a slight edge, but it's essentially 50/50.

Pavlik likely stops him late.

I just don't see anything special nor has his opposition been particularly impressive. Sure, he beat Santos, but so did Foreman, yet when he stepped up, he was demolished by Cotto.

It's just that he has predictable tendencies that will especially be exploited by Martinez southpaw style.

A better fight for Dzinziruk would be Daniel Jacobs or maybe even Pirog who is a dynamic fighter, but green. I would still favor Pirog though. A fight with Pavlik is suicide as Dzinziruk lacks movement and any sort of adaptability that would give Pavlik problems. Pavlik would wear him down and knock him out.

I think this fight will show how many levels above Martinez is over a convention belt type of fighter.

I can see this being like the Bradley v Peterson fight where Sergei will do his thing but will just not be able to deal with all the facets of the game brought to him by Martinez and whilst he'll be relatively competative he'll barely win a round. The point you made about him struggling with Konecnys movement is a good one because Martinez' lateral movement is some of the best in boxing.

I agree. The Razor has looked good, not great, in his most important fights, but Sergio is better than him in just about every dept. Sergei will be game though. He dares to trade, he'll get ko'd. He tries to outbox Sergio, he'll get outboxed, but that might be Sergei's best option. Let the battle of the Sergio's commence!

Well, Dzin is gonna give Martinez something different to deal with than his last two fights. The difference though is that Martinez is a smooth fighter who is faster and more fluid than Dzin, who is kind of basic in his approach. I don't see Martinez having many problems with him either.
