Yeah but I tried to go in detail to show the difference in Pavlik's (strong, predictable) and Williams (unpredictable, not as strong) pressure. Watch Hopkins go out in the very first seconds of the fight, take a side step and slip&counter, the fight was over right there. Pavlik could never apply any kind of pressure at any moment in the fight. Martinez is perfectly capable of do the same moves. But I agree with the question: can he do it for 12? All I'm saying, that given a proper camp for a MW fight which he did not have for Williams, I think he could improve his chances dramatically.

Exactly HOW would Pavlik apply the pressure if his jab and right hand is being neutralized?

Very good points that you can expect some of the pav fans to overlook.

I would expect Martinez to outright put a BHop style ass-whipping on Pav. I just don't think Pav can connect with Serg until perhaps the latter rounds if he gets a little depleted.

And I definitely see pav eating a few punches he would like to forget about.

Money may be good, but I would understand it if he doesn't want to fight in the states anymore. Hell, look what he had to do to get a draw against Cintron....:patsch

We ran Quartey the **** outta Dodge...twice (and like Martinez, he had to resort to taking on ridiculous size disadvantages the he oughtn't have had to). :verysad

Martinez is the much faster fighter so he will def have his moments agianst Pavlik, but I see Kelly beating him and stopping him late,I dont feel Martinez can beat Pavlik

Two things. First, it has been documented quite well Pavlik was not physically ready for the Bhop fight because of an injured elbow and bronchitis. Lesson learned. Pdub fight sacrificed.

Second, there was word before the Rubio fight that Kelly would 'box more'. He didn't start his career in the amateurs just KO'ing guys. So, when he tries to go back to it he gets criticized for not looking good against Rubio. How many times did you see him let Rubio off the ropes? You think he might have carried him a little for the home town crowd? Point is, in the past Kelly has boxed more and it sounds like he might be going back to some of that since the Hopkins fight. We shall see.

People are underrating pavlik because hopkins made it look so easy to outbox him. Not everyone has the skills, timing, and ring generalship that hop used to make pavlik look like a fool. Alot of that comes from his inate talent, but alot of that comes from his massive experience advantage over Pav. Guys Martinez can box, but he wont be schooling Pav like bhop did. :bart

I pretty much doubt we will. But let me understand what you say... Kelly would not even look to apply physical pressure to the smaller, weaker fighter (which would be completely reasonable to do, just ineffective up to the point Martinez gets tired, IF he gets tired), instead he'd try to BOX vs. the significantly more skilled and much faster Martinez? Would be interesting.

    It would be his undoing.

Nope. Not saying that at all. Just be a little smarter and more patient. No big changes. Years ago I heard Jack on local television talk about how fan friendly Kelly's style was. I think they crafted it that way and they got away with it for quite a while. They SEEM to realize that they may need to emphasize other things now.

When will they realize Loew must go? When I suggested someone like Steward would do the trick, I was called a hater. Well, guess what, I'm now suggesting Kelly to team up with Kessler and Cotto and all 3 knock on the Kronk. Such a hater I am, unbelievable. What good a HOF-er possibly do what a local trainer couldn't?

manny and cotto wouldnt be a good fit. Cotto dosent like to hold

Im pretty sure kessler will be reluncant to clinch now too (hell have flashbacks of the ward headbutts) :yep

I honestly think kessler is done. He looked terrible in that ward fight

Either guy could win this fight. Martinez had stamina issues late against Williams, I feel. That said, he's a pretty fast guy who obviously would make it a tough night for Pavlik.

    Good post.

I think Martinez would present Pavlik with trouble, no doubt. However, let's not pretend as if Martinez is the second coming of Willie Pep. The guy is good, but he's not great.
