Sergio Martinez would school Kelly Pavlik

I'm only on page 5, so I haven't read every post. However, thus far I haven't seen anyone mention a very important point.

According to Compu Box PW's connect rate rarely exceeds 24%. Against Martinez, Paul landed 33% over all. A guy who is that easy to hit has almost zero chance of lasting 12 rounds with Pavlik. It's normal for Pavlik to land 30-35%. Against Martinez he'd land just as often as the less accurate but slightly faster Williams.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Sergio would have his moments in the early going, but in reality that's what happens in damn near every Pavlik fight. Kelly is not a slow starter, but it generally takes him 3 or 4 rounds to get his timing down and fall into his rythym. Taylor won the 2nd round. I gave Miranda the 2nd round. Zertuche gave
Pavlik hell for 2 rounds. McKart controled certain parts of the first 4 rounds, et. After that KP hit his stride and turned into a ****ing freight train.

Furthermore, Pavlik has had trouble with exactly ONE fast handed/fleet footed fighter, and you all know who it was. The rest got knocked out or lost a clear UD.

In addition, please do not compare Martinez at 160 to BHop against a sick and injured Pavlik at 170. For reasons "itrymariti" and "Hermit" already mentioned, on that particular night Hops was able to give Kelly a choice: "Show me massive respect, or I will knock you the **** out." Martinez would not have that luxury.

Pavlik leaves Martinez slumped in a corner sometime after the 8th. However, Sergio may be capable of giving KP enough hell to become the first guy who ever saw the 10th round against Pavlik at 160. No way in hell does he see the end of 12, much less "school" Pavlik.

Of course I'm assuming we'll see Kelly return to form in 2010. Most do not know it, but KP has not been physically 100% since the Lockett fight, but now he's had plenty of time to rest and heal. He's also doing some new things with training now. He still hits the weight and strength training hard, but he is now into yoga which trains both mind and body, and we all know about his training at the Top Rank gym in Vegas. What if he's stronger, tougher, faster, and deadlier than he was in 2007?

Everyone seems to have forgotten that Goosen agreed to the December 5th date based on his own personal analysis of Pavlik's medical records. Now they call Pav a liar.

The live attendence for Williams/Martinez was under 3000. Now Goosen says Paul won't fight Kelly unless everything is 50/50. They're going to price PW out of the fight just like they did in 2008.

Pavlik has seriously underperformed since twice defeating Taylor.

In fact, Taylor is his ONLY elite win(s).

He has the tools to do better, and I believe that better coaching would make the difference. He's young enough to make the change.

Mosley spent too long under the stewardship of his dad.

Now, I rank Mosley's career as brilliant, but I would guess he would have been even better under a more qualified coach.

I'm a big fan of Calzaghe (and his dad), but I think Joe also suffered from less than stellar coaching.

    Martinez-Pavlik, like Williams-Pavlik, is almost a pick'em fight.

Kelly, onnaccount of his strength and power, would have a razor thin edge.

If the final bell sounds, I would expect both of them to take the fight.

(Caveat re Sergio: Would have to be in a neutral location with neutral judges.)

I don't think he will be risking his belt here any time soon. Wouldn't blame him at all. I didn't score the Williams fight round by round, but he was the better boxer. I'm not saying that was enough but little doubt in my mind why he feels he won.

Pavlik doesn't have to be the Terminator to be able to handle a mild-punching Light Middleweight. Ask yourself this: Does Martinez hit harder than Miranda?

The standard ESB General Forum answer to your question is: "Miranda's punches didn't have anything on them because he was always on the back foot." Well? How the **** did Pavlik keep 172 pounds of Edison Miranda on the back foot? Answer -- By eating his shots like Skittles every time Edison tried to come forward, and answering back with some straight up evil **** of his own!

I'd take Pavlik personally. You can have all the skills in the world, and its perfectly true Martinez has the tools to outbox and beat Pavlik, but a lot of this sport comes down to toughness. Martinez regardless of what he claimed was hurt by Williams, was tagged fairly frequently by Williams, if that happened against Pavlik there would be an accumulative effect.

Ask yourself this: does Taylor (last stoppage: 5 years ago, stoppage vs. top opposition: ZERO) hit harder than Miranda?

Margarito landed dozens of possible dirty bombs on Cintron to chop him down. Martinez finished him off via a single blow. "It was a headbutt, nobody hits that hard!" Oh yes Kelly... I mean Kermit. You just didn't see it coming. :deal

I just reviewed Williams/Martinez again this morning. Taking into consideration that Styles make fights, I've changed my postion a bit.

Williams would be lucky to make it out of the 3rd round with Pavlik. If he came charging across the ring, swinging for the fences, at the opening bell against Pavlik like he did with Sergio, the fight ends right there. In a head on collision between Pavlik and Williams, Pavlik wins everytime. The thing is, PW does not know any other way to fight.

Martinez was sucking wind by the end of round 4. Pavlik applies much more intelligent pressure than Williams does, and KP is bigger and stronger than Paul. Segio would not see the end of 8.

Sergio Martinez is not Bernard Hopkins. He would not school Pavlik, assuming Pavlik is more who we thought he was (Denny Green ftw!) than the manikin who showed up to fight Hopkins.

But he is a slicker fighter than Jermain Taylor, he's faster right now than Hopkins, and his stamina isn't that bad. Keep in mind he took Williams on relatively short notice. His chin is also very respectable.

I think it's close to a 50/ 50 fight, and a beatable, smaller, yet credible opponent might be exactly what the doctor ordered for Pavlik in 2010. I would have nothing bad to say about this fight getting made.

If you are going to talk absolute non sense, the very least you could do is spell the name correctly. Obviously you know about as much about Pavlik as my Cocker Spaniel knows about nuclear physics.
