His chin is about average, it's his balance that's ****ed up. The same balance that cause him to **** up his knee's in the Chavez Jr fight and again in the Cotto fight.
It's ok... but the Murray and especially Cotto fight the knockdowns were helped along by him having no legs anymore...
Taking into consideration the size of the men he was facing at MW he had a remarkable good bordering on great chin. He had bad balance that's all, the only time I've seen him seriously hurt was against Chavez and if I'm not mistaken he was fighting with a mild concussion for the last half of the Chavez match, the clash of heads that opened the gash on his temple caused it. And then Chavez hits him right on the cut on his temple and still couldn't KO him. Margarito it was body shots. Williams, Pavlik, Murray, Macklin were all from bad balance. Cotto couldn't legitimately KO him and he was a shot sitting duck.
Martinez' chin is shot to shiet, just like everything else about him after Chavez Jr thorougly ruined him and ended his career as a top fighter
Not as fragile as his glass knees. The KD against Paul Williams was clearly balance related. I don't even think Williams' glove touched his head. I think he caught him with a glancing forearm to the shoulder or back or something. The KD against Pavlik was a joke too. Pavlik hit him with a nothing shot as their feet were tangled up. In both instances Sergio was the away fighter facing an American in the US. Remember how Sergio actually had to beat Cintron twice over there to get a draw. He had another dubious KD counted against him over there as well when he fought Macklin. Again he only went down because their legs got tangled up. The funny thing is the KDs against Pavlik, Macklin, and the one he scored against Cintron (which should've been counted as a KO win), all occurred in the 7th round. And he was stopped by Margarito in that round too. To balance it out though (no pun intended). Sergio had what looked like a legitimate KD not called by the ref when he fought Murray back home in Argentina. Richard Williams legitimately dropped him twice in their first fight though. He was pretty badly hurt by one of those KDs too. That was the first time I ever saw Sergio fight and I must say I was very impressed by his boxing ability and the heart he displayed in that fight. It was actually a pretty good scrap from what I remember of it. O:50 mark [YT]5i3Ouo1VAoE[/YT] 1:45 mark [YT]RbwsdSz039s[/YT]
I tend to agree with this. Not an iron chin but solid, it was probably his late start to boxing which led to the awkwardness in his balance.
Shaky chin, but tons of heart. Apparently, according to his fanboys all his knockdowns were slips.....
