Berto is rocked by a jab. Ximenez lands a few more crisp little shots while creeping forward on his toes. Berto tries a new style of guard, keeping one arm crossed sideways and the left perpendicular and elbow-out like a leather-soaking weathervane. It's moderately effective, as Ximenez just finds new ways to make Berto wince - sliding jabs off-angle to smack him in the chest and leading with hard line drive right hands that snap Berto's head back. Quintuple jab from Ximenez lands unanswered. Uppercut. Berto begs to differ with me regarding Ximenez's nickname. He thinks it should be Rubik's Cube.

 

Round 4

Hard combo from Ximenez. Berto is rocked but tries to hold on and forces a clinch. Berto is leading with uppercuts, trying to get something big to land in between all of the leather Ximenez is raining down on him. Berto keeps grabbing and shoving whenever Ximenez opens up. Ximenez is shoving back to get Berto into range and then cocking big right hands to nail Berto with when Berto tries to fill the gap offensively. Hard 1-2 clips Berto on the face and he starts to lean away with his hand halfway up, as Ximenez keeps blasting him. BIG shot to the face. Berto shells up but is floating unsteadily across the ring as Ximenez moves him with even his blocked shots.

Ximenez doesn't bother forcing the stoppage, content to just tattoo Berto until the bell.

Per my recollection there were two knockdowns in the 1st; one ruled and the other called a slip.

That means 40-35.

Sugar Ray Leonard (on "Real Steel"): With these robotic boxers, at first when first approached I didn't know quite how it would evolve or all come together, BUT - I found myself rooting for them...the boxers...the robots...because of the movement and the fluidity of them and it's uh...it's an amazing performance.

Oh Ray. :-( You brilliant ATG ****ing *****.

 

I'll say this - Sergio's got swagger.

He may not have ever earned that swagger by standing and fighting like a true East LA warrior...but he's got the cockiness down pat.

 

When he tilts forward and leans himself open, BANG! You do that, and you're Mora - you're going to Disney World. Well, I don't know if you're going Disney World like the football players, but you get a nice win.

Now if you're Vera, what's he gotta deal with? Well, he's gonna come in he's the more physical guy he wants to stack the box,. PUT EIGHT IN THE BOX. In other words get in the trenches...maybe a goal line stance. If you're Vera, you get inside and work your way in a little bit; you get in close. I noticed when Mora when he's being slick he leans right a little bit maybe leaves himself open. So again if you're Vera you get inside you put eight in the box. you get a fumble, you get a score. You get a score, you get a in!
