What happened to Sergio. How do you go from being near the top of a division to shelved like he has? No one ever mentions him in the mix at 154 or 160 and honestly with 160 as weak as it is right now he should fit in there somewhere. Anyone know of his plans or if he has something coming up?
not that its relevant but i beat him up and knock him out on fight night champions with lightweights.
I remember him during the lead-up to his first fight with Brian Vera on the topic of trash talking saying something like, "I'm just waiting for someone to try and shut me up." Well he went on to loss to Vera, not once but twice. I guess he's been shut-up.
His recent poor results stem from his desire to entertain fans with his exciting style. If he'd focus more on the win rather than just trying to please the crowd and give them their money's worth, he'd have easily beaten Vera and Mosley.
Ironically in real life Miguel Vazquez the IBF lightweight champion and him sparred. Miguel did so well against him Mora gave him the name "Trucoso" which means Tricky.
i wouldn't be surprised if vasquez beat him up so badly they had to stop the spar, he's a pretender a cocky one at that, i remember after he won the contender (a journeyman show) how he thought he was such a big ****, and how he was pricing himself out of fights against jermaine taylor and pavlik. what goes around comes around.
he could have used his name to make more $$ fights but he is done, nothing left for him. Sexy Sergio is the only sergio left.
I can see a few fights at 154 that would be fan friendly if he can still make the weight. I can't imagine he can afford to retire. I'm surprised he is not working his way back.
well atleast he made a Million $ from the contender and he beat Manfredo Jr. TWICE... Im glad Vera beat him.
There's a tad bit of biased hate here... The Contender is a contender show as is implied in the name. I can't really say he's a pretender since he became champion. In retrospect Mora may have made the right choice in not fighting Jermaine since he felt he would get robbed when it went to the cards. Spinks replaced Mora and was then arguably robbed against Taylor.
He got a BS draw against Mosley in the most boring PPV main event ever then fell into obscurity where he belongs.
It's important that he be remembered by all the significant promoters and broadcasters as a stay busy fighter for any prospect who runs out of credible options. The public awareness that still lingers allows him to punch above his weight (in this regard) amongst his fellow journeymen.
