Sergio by UD or late stoppage. I dont think Cotto would trade as much, but if in the middle of the ring his boxing got Floyds attention he'd be competitive thru out the fight. Cotto may be short, but yet to see anyone overpower him. Not Floyd, not Margarito, not Mayorga. You have to respect him for revitalizing his career something many Puerto Rican greats are known not to do. With Cotto for Pacquiao not wanting to fight him at 154 he knows he's dealing with a different fighter.

Was very impressed by his pushing of Margarito back.

Sergio would stop him, Cotto doesn't have the power to stop Sergio, and he can't take Sergio's power. The size difference is too big, but Cotto is a tough Puerto Rican warrior, and he'd be competitive throughout

That and using more pivots used to stifle Margo's forward progress.

Chavez still had the bigger longer body and he can't rip combos with the kind of leverage a shorter fighter would. Uppercuts would be a problem tough I don't evision Martinez doubling them up the way Margo did without eating a left hook for his troubles with the way he holds his chin. Margo had a unique ability of bulldozing his way into your personal space and then turning small enough to rip at your body and head....of course he sacrificed his face in the process lmao!

Aye, Garcia had him employing great lateral movement. One of my favourite recent bouts.

This bout has me very interested now. I don't think it's as clear cut as, "Martinez by KO" as most are putting down. Martinez can be hit, and I don't see him moving as much against Cotto just for the simple fact that he is smaller than him. Like I said in another post, Cotto's defense and hand positioning has improved, his upper body movement was impressive against Mayweather, his footwork has improved, he looks to be hitting a touch harder at the higher weight now (he has adapted to it well). This bout will produce some interesting debates if it comes off next year.

You're right about Margarito  He does that very well, even did it against Pacquiao and got slaughtered for it.

No catchweight, 154 or nothing. Fight wouldn't interest me at 160.

Margo catches a lot of heat on here and their where moments when I felt he was scum....;however I must admit he was an offensive machine relentless in his pursuit, every punch was solid and strapping.

Martinez would surely implement a much more assertive approach while leaving behind his counter punching capabilities, I'm almost certain of that. Of course this creates opportunities for Cotto to stop him in his tracks with his shotgun jab. If Cotto can avoid being caught with those sneaky right hands and somehow keep them hitting his massive dome and not his chin he may stay alive long enough to truly put on his own brand of slow and moderate yet effective damage.

I loved it when Cotto at the end of one of the middle rounds slips a quick jab then a quick right followed by a left hook right hand combo from Floyd with his hands down and then walks off to his corner....slick and black (slick and rican)

Co-sign....those six pounds would make the fight a total mismatch in my opinion.

Wouldnt want to watch this. Im a fan of Cotto and I think he loses. However, i thought Martinez said he could make 154? Why a catchweight? Keep titles? Isnt worth the sacrifice like a fight Floyd would be?

Trying to catch weight Cotto? tsk,tsk

Weight aside. Cotto would actually be the best "boxer" that Martinez has faced in, maybe ever. Crazy, right?

Sergio wins over Cotto but many in here are underestimating Cotto.
Cotto unlike Chavez knows how to cut the ring and counter punch.
Imo Cotto is a live underdog in this match.

Sergio will be drained at 154 and he's always been easy to hit. Cotto would definitely be competitive.
