Go read my thread Expectation vs Reality. He was the underdog because people expected Martinez to be healthy.

His knee was shot, end of story.

If Sergio had won with those beyond shot knees it would have been the most heroic win this side of Rocky-Drago

That is not really relevant to my post but I'm not so sure people expected Martinez to be completely healthy. They definitely expected him to win though.

According to Team Maravilla’s Nathan Lewkowicz, former WBC middleweight world champion Sergio Martinez had no hand or knee issues in Saturday night’s fight against Miguel Cotto. “He felt dizzy after the shot to the head in round one and didn’t recover. The only injury was a broken nose.” :hi:

I always thought "If he's healthy, he should win by KO". Damn near everybody I spoke to, in person, said this fight depends on Sergio's condition. I don't know who expected an injured Martinez to win.

And it is relevant to your post. You said he was the underdog. He was only the underdog because of people's expectations. A lot of people are in denial.

The reason why he was the underdog doesn't matter. The fact is he was the underdog so it was not a cherry pick by Roach, if it was a cherry pick by anyone it was by Martinez.

The reason DOES matter in this case because think he went up and beat THE middleweight champ on a level playing field. It's Martinez's dumbass fault, he took the fight, and credit to him for not making excuses. But it's obvious he's done. The reason matters because people are giving Cotto TOO MUCH credit for fighting a guy with a bum knee. ANY middleweight could've beaten Martinez that night.

I saw him get wobbled, Cotto jacked him hard in the 1st round. His leg wasn't messed up until after he went down.

Yeah? What happened with the whole "who is walking out first" bull****?
    It was all fabricated.
They wouldn't lie about Sergio's health to get a payday though, right?:hey

Cotto deserves all the credit. He took the fight and won it impressively. I don't buy into the notion that because your opponent wasn't great that means you didn't perform well and should get no credit. People are just trying to discredit Cotto's victory because they don't like the idea of Cotto's win being rated higher than their favorite boxers wins.
