Lets just say Sergio recovers well and isn't showing signs of decline like most believe, lets say it was purely him not being 100% due to lack of recovery time in his last fight.

How quickly does he spark Cotto if the meet in 2014?

    Yeah
And nothing will bring back the Sergio who beat Paul 'greatest ww potential of all time' Williams

    Cotto wins is in 2015

All the epo in the world ain't gonna bring serg back

Even if that serg turned up, cotto gives him a fight, untill he gets put down
    Possibly round six

ok finally a answer that is relevant to the thread. I don't agree at all. If you have ever watched Cotto, you know he struggles greatly against guys with movement, a fully fit Sergio has incredible movement along with above average power. I really don't see how Cotto would deal with that.

    Well heres my take.

I always thought Martinez had a slight edge against Cotto, because of speed. But if u really look at it, martinez just keeps his hands down way to much to not get the crap beat out of him against Cotto. Not just in his last fight, but if u look at his last 3 or 4 fights people have done decent agianst him who or not world class level at all. I would even say Delvin was better then a few of those opponets martinez had fought.

People want to say he just look past it against Murray but really Murray just fought a good fight and Martinez is aways been there to get touched.

Cotto KO Martinez within 9 rounds. to much pressure, to much power, to much everything. Cotto has fought better fighters to wear this would be Martinez's toughest fight

Martinez would stop him in 9 if he somehow came back to form

I do think he will look better than the Murray fight more like the Chavez fight but not how he was at his best

Interesting take, I respect some point you make. Although I do agree Sergio has always been hittable, I do feel like Sergio's decline has been a bit exaggerated by some though. Here's my take:

Cintron - anyone who saw this knows it was BS, he knocked cintron out, that was not a illegal shot

PW1 - taken on short notice, close decision, some say he deserved the nod.

Pavlik - got knocked down once, but other wise sparked him

    PW2 - sparked him

    Dzinziruk - sparked him

Macklin - mac fought a very smart fight, but still got knocked out

Barker - fought a very defensive style, still got knocked out

Chavez - with exception of the knock down in rd 12 he did not look bad at all

Murray - fought a smart fight against a wounded version of Martinez

Good take on all those fights :good

What do u mean a wounded Martinez? Wounded because he got hit then he got hurt? He got hurt because he doesnt keeps his hands up and Cotto will KO out when hes doing that.

Martinez was able to get touched fairly easy in his last 4 fights (Chavez sucks so we understand that) and none of them are even near what Cotto is. Cotto is able to get hit to but keeps his hands up. yes the Delvin fight is one fight but him throwing those body shots will kill martinez. Also Cotto doesnt handle movement to well but did very good against Mayweather which has wayyy more movement then martinez and actually has defense that Cotto was able to break a few times.

I do see this fight going back and forth for awhile but to much pressure will break martinez. his days are numbered, either GGG or Cotto is getting him out next year. thats not a bad thing, theres great fighters

Thank you! Sergio haters are very quick to exaggerate and discredit him. I think these are very true assessments of his last bunch of outings.

What I meant by a wounded version was his knee was not 100% and he re-injured his hand during the fight. Both of these made him look bad and made Murray look better.

Only thing I disagree with you is that Mayweather actually did not move that much is his fight with Cotto. He stood in front of him most of the night which I believe made the fight a little easier for Cotto IMO. Not to discredit Cotto that night though.

Some good discussion here but imo the only way cotto wins is if martinez is past it (which he is, imo)

A top form martinez UD or Tko's Cotto, imo

If cotto is in good form and martinez continues to slide, it becomes a competitive, winnable fight for cotto.

    Imo
