Nope, this was in the plan all along. I said it before. HBO wants Sergio to pass the torch to GGG in his last fight. He has 2 more fights in Contract I believe. (Cotto then Golovkin). He beats Cotto, putting him at a career high in exposure, then fight Golovkin. HBO will defintely rob Sergio if possible. They need Golovkin to pick up that lineage to become a big draw. You can even look at my posts I've said it several times.

Sergio said he had no problem fighting Golovkin but wanted a tune up as he was coming off an injury.

Lara aswell despite being 154 champion is often overlooked by his promoters in favour of Canelo so he is desperate for a big fight (even if it seems he is name dropping knowing thhat HBO will not show GBP fights)

So, Martinez doesn't plan on defending his WBC belt against Rubio then?

Well Rubio has a fight in April for the Interim WBC belt whilst a unification sort of by passes a mandatory meaning we would have this

    Sergio Martinez vs Miguel Cotto
    Sergio Martinez vs Gennady Golovkin
    Sergio/Golovkin vs Marco Antonio Rubio

If Rubio was that eager for the shot why wasnt he speaking up about it? only reason he is the mandatory is because Chavez tested positive for weed post Martinez fight

    I hope you're right.
Personally, I think they'll take the fight that "makes sense".

I'm pretty sure he took it to court.
I'm not sure how much he talked about it on twitter, so maybe he doesn't really want it.

Pacman is indeed the mind captivating fighter of our era, he started at 16 at 106 lbs all the way to Margarito. They made a movie about it, just watch it :think

Yea maybe Cotto is but i havent seen it. A shot fighter means he cant do a damn thing. Cotto has been competive his last few fights.

Martinez-Canelo can happen, espically if Martinez beats Cotto. his stock will be at his highest. HBo-Showtime will work that out.

I am curious about this too...I've been wondering about that 159 CW and the only reason I can kinda think of is they be able give Cotto the belt if he wins, but still selll Maravilla as the lineal Champ since the fight wasn't at 160.

IDK - It's just an idea, but I can't think of a better one for why they'd fight a Lb below the divisional limit.

Uh yeah.....and the TS really needs to provide a quote or a link...hell, any kinda evidence would do.

Sergio has NEVER backed off fighting GGG. His manager, though, has stated HE WILL NEVER LET IT HAPPEN.
