It is going to take someone with excellent:

    Head Movement

    Foot Movement

    Power

    Stamina.

I am not sure if there is a fighter around that has all 4 or even 3 out of those four credentials.

This is a very good question. :think

    Greetings, goons! :hi:

Excellent, excellent discussion that is being progressed in the thread. I'm glad I started it.

Some very good points have been brought up. And yes, I appreciate the random rants, raves and off-topic posts! This is ESB, after all!

    :tong

But yeah, Castillo is the only one that I think came very, very close. Who knows about know...hopefully someone can give Floyd a good battle soon.

    Again, excellent discussion. Please, continue.

The only way to beat him is go to the body. Hit him in the arms, and elbows. That will tire him out in the latter rounds. Forget about the head. You'll never catch it. He will be ducking, slipping and rolling all nite. Don't let him make u follow him. He'll hit u with right hands all nite. Margo and Cotto like going to the body. This is their only chance against him. Probably is the reason floyd has continued to avoid them his entire career. But, then, again. What do I know?:D They say nobody is invincible. Maybe floyd is.

Drop a cheque for $20M on the canvas, he'll spend forever trying to pick it up with his boxing gloves on. While he's at it, get Mike Tyson drunk and stick a picture of Demi Moore on Mayweathers ass, either that or pit Margarito against him.

floyd simply dodges who ever has the arsenal to slay him. so what we have to do is look at who floyd blatantly ducked and that will tell you who would beat him.

we know floyd blatantly ducked Cotto last spring, and Margarito, so those are the two styles which would slaughter him. Intense pressure, merciless assaults, and a winning mentality, true confidence and drive to be the best are what Cotto and Margarito have in common. unlike baldomir, judah, oscar, corley, mitchell, bruseles. Hatton almost had it but he was ineffective at 147. That was a nice win for floyd.

Add in Paul WIlliams who would also beat floyd convincingly.

Cotto and AM don't have the skills to beat Floyd. All they have is Arum's smear campaign going for them. That convinces their fans that Floyd is a coward. They don't truly think their man can beat Floyd. They just ride with Arum's smear campaign of Floyd because Floyd left Arum's fat ass.

Cotto and Margarito both already beat floyd. they stepped up and challenged floyd who backed down, on the spot. floyd's own "family" HBO wanted both fights but floyd waved the white flag and went to pro wrestling.

floyd ended up calling HBo "racist."

The only fighters Id back to beat Mayweather without a significant size advantage prime v prime are....... Julio cesar Chavez & Pernell Whitaker, more so Chavez stylewise tho as JCC is massively underrated on ESB I`ll probably get some stick for even suggesting Chavez can do anything better than Pernell.

Right now, (now that JL Castillo has retired! :D) I don't think there is anyone around who could beat Floyd, his skills are too advanced. Pac and Margo would both give him tough tough nights, tougher than his fans think they would, but I wouldn't bet against Floyd in a fight with either man.

Historically, many fighters could beat Floyd at most weights he fought at. Duran and Whitaker would both dominate him at lw IMO. But PBF was at his most effective at superfeather - I don't think anyone beats him at that weight except maybe Arguello. I'd take PBF to edge both Chavez and Nelson at 130.

    A true great.

Way too many posts for me to read, so I'll just answer the question.
How Do you Beat Floyd Mayweather, Jr.? I think it depends on the fighter fighting him, for example, i think Pernell Whitaker would beat Floyd and I also think Vernon Forrest could have beaten Floyd, but both in different ways, with different strengths and weaknesses. To be fair, at lightweight Floyd was a monster and I did read some one say it would take an all time great like Duran to beat him, and I agree. At welter he's more beatable but it would still need to be a HOF caliber opponent who's got more than just a few good weapons going for him. I think the guy with the best chance to beat Floyd before he retired was Cotto, but would've still fallen short of victory at the end (great fight though). Mayweather had a bunch of names to make great fights and pad up a legitimate record, but in the end he made too much money with a great record on his hands which led to his early retirement and left many fans wanting to see a lot more from him.
