hey all, ive been boxing on and off for about 5 years (proper ABA registered gym, coaches etc) had 9 contents, can honestly put my hands up and say that during those 5 years never been 100% fit or dedicated, 70% maximum...ive stopped boxing now for about the last year. im 20 and 6 feet tall, weigh 76 kilos at the moment even though my fighting weight has always been 70-72.. for the past year i havent done a mile of roadwork, all ive been eating is crap, mcds kfc etc... but the love of boxing has just been burning me up for the past 3 months..and i havent done anything about it... now heres the question...is 20 years old too old to make myself into a pro boxer? this time im ready to dedicate 110% and i know that if im too make it i need to start now... what would you guys advise? do you think at 20 if i reincarnate myself i can still go far? thanks in advance for all your replies
Theres no age limit, this has been stressed hundreds of times in the training forum in the past. If you are dedicated you can do anything.
Not that it really matters in this case but there's an age limit of 34 in the amateurs. Edit: read first post properly. My bad.
At 20 you're definitely not too old to train and test the pro waters. However, by your own admission, when you were boxing regularly you only trained about 70% intensity and had 9 fights in 5 years. That's not exactly an impressive amateur career, but it is a start. Obviously you've lost most, if not all your conditioning from your boxing days with, by your own admission, your lack of proper eating and exercise habits. A strong desire to accomplish something is a great motivator and it sounds like your want to give this a good shot. Go for it now or one day you may look back and wish you did while you were still young enough to make it happen. Good luck and keep us up with your progress if you should decide to go for it.
Thank you all... A bit of motivation goes a long way Right, tomorrow 5am wake up... 3 miles at a steady pace I think will be a good way to start getting cardio back...
Went for a run this morning, proper warm up and stretches for like 10 mins then 2 miles at 8 minutes each then last mile up the hill I walked I felt dead lol but feel so good now, healthy porridge breakfast... Game on
20 to old to train? Not at all, if ur dedicated enough like i am and im only 15 anything is possible. Poeple like us can achieve goals that other people take 2 years to achieve in 2 months.. use ur motivation to ur advantage, put ur 101% into it heart soul and fire
Bernard didn't have his first pro fight until he was close to 24 years old. He was born on 1/15/65 and had his first fight, a loss, on 10/11/88. Not sure what his amateur resume looked like, but to still be going strong at age 46 in this sport is quite an accomplishment.
Guys... a quick update... I am in the ABA Novice Championships this November...training hard as hell...eating like a monster...I will get this title
