Anybody know what the corner man's excuse was? Was he even interviewed?

Sometimes it'd be nice to see common sense used in the ring, bull**** decision.

GBP biased stoppage. Look at the article over at the Scene.

Referee Jon Schorle, after telling Molina's cornerman to get out, returns back to Molina to continue his count. Not only does he continue his count, he even asks Molina "are you okay" - which every referee asks a fighter in order to determine if the boxer in question is capable of continuing.

After Molina indicated to Schorle that he was okay and capable of fighting on, Schorle then ordered both fighters to get back to their respective corners. Then Schorle speaks to a few people at ringside and decides to disqualify Molina for his cornerman entering the ring.

"We are absolutely going to file an appeal once we conduct a thorough investigation. You can’t really react at ringside without looking at videotape. But there were a lot of things wrong, or appeared to be wrong. And they will probably get confirmed by tape. But at the end of the day, a decision like that hurts boxing. The fighters were robbed of their ability to finish what was turning into a very interesting fight," Margules told ***********.com.

"Why would you stop the fight? In basketball it’s called ‘no harm, no foul.’ What was the purpose of disqualifying him? The bell rang and the corner reacted. There [was someone from the commission posted in the Molina's corner and] he didn’t do anything [to prevent Molina’s cornerman from entering]. He heard the bell too. What does a corner do? When they hear the ten second [signal], they get near the edge of the ropes and when the bell rings they run up and take their change and that’s what they did."

"Molina was on his feet when all of this happened anyway. [Molina's cornerman] got in and got out. They referee ordered the fighters to their corners, and then he talked to everybody at ringside. Golden Boy was screaming to disqualify him and they disqualified him. If a guy gets knocked down before the end of the round, the bell is not supposed to ring until the count is over, because the corner is going to react until the end of the bell."

To me the bell ringing is lost in all this. Its the cause of the whole mess.

I hope they win the appeal, because even though by letter of the law he can't enter the ring, there were mitigating circumstances.

I noticed that during the live telecast and I also noticed GBP matchmaker Eric Gomez was so busy running around outside the ring talking to officials and Kirkland's corner.

Another article that touches on common sense. Badlefthook.com.

    http://www.badlefthook.com/2012/3/2...as-boxing-commission-jon-schorle-gale-van-hoy

Common sense was thrown out the window when referee Jon Schorle elected to disqualify Molina for that infraction. Yes, it's the rule, but to say there was "no choice" is absurd. Schorle spent most of the fight ignoring Molina's tactics, which included constant clinching and holding, some headbutting, and trapping Kirkland's right arm repeatedly. That he chose to suddenly become the paragon of virtue on something that clearly had zero impact on the fight whatsoever would be mind-boggling -- except it's Texas, so it really isn't all that surprising.

Most bizarre was Schorle interrupting his count to instruct the cornerman back out of the ring, then continuing the count, and allowing the fighter to "continue" -- apparently with no intention of having the fight continue anyway.

Leon Margules, Molina's promoter, asked the question that just about everyone is asking. From Doug Fischer at The RING:

"Why couldn’t the referee use some discretion and allow the bout to continue? Why couldn’t he make that decision? Why did he have to talk to the commissioners? At the end of the day, they cheated both fighters of a fight."

There should be a rematch, but early talk is that Kirkland's team -- not Kirkland and Ann Wolfe so much as "the team" -- doesn't want one, but that is just early talk. Molina once again deserved better, but so did Kirkland. With Molina seemingly reeling, Kirkland could well have come out with an excellent stoppage win in the final two rounds, showcasing his stamina and hunger, his ability to gut out a tough fight against a tough opponent and come out on top.

Kirkland didn't get the chance to seal a good rally for the win. Molina didn't get the chance to survive or come back hard in the 11th and 12th rounds. Everyone in boxing, though, got yet another reason to consider avoiding Texas like the plague.

It feels like eventually, someone is going to have to do something. You just can't keep screwing the pooch on national TV, in high-profile fights, without someone finally stepping in and wondering what in the hell is going on here.

Bogus stoppage. The ref only did it to save his job. One glare from GBP was all it took. A small protest, a dirty look and a bogus career saving stoppage in favor of Kirkland and GBP's golden goose.:nono

I really tought that Wolfe and Kirkland would tell the ref to resume the fight anyway. Both didn't seemed happy at all. Molina was robbed, but I liked what I saw from Kirkland at the end. Too much muscles, not enough skills, but a damn great heart.

The ref did not have a choice. If Molina goes on to win, the decision would have been set aside anyway because the fight was over at the point the corner came up on the ring apron, let alone entering the ring.

Look every team is given a copy of the rules governing that particular contest, It is their responsbility to know them and abide by them.

Instead of looking to the ref, the blame falls squarely on his corner. What the **** was he looking at anyway, when he climbed into the ring? He had his back to the ref and his fighter, his mistake cost team Molina a win. No need to look for conspiracies

Yes he did. Do you agree that the bell shouldn't have rung before the ref was finished counting? First ****up. The ****up that ensued was the stool boy preparing the corner for Molina as his reaction was driven by the bell, nevermind the fact that Molina was up on his feet. Ref actually cleared the confusion and ended the count ensuring Molina could continue, but after talking to 'officials' at ringside, decided to waive it off as a DQ. You can disregard any and all possibilities of corruption existing in boxing, this to me is GBP's work considering Molina was up on two scorecards.

Bell rang as he was going down, that's normal. Molina wasn't all the way down and then it rang, it rang during the whole thing.

This is from memory but Molina was being given the count when the guy entered the ring. Molina's corner ****ed up.
