Serious question: is this a 'cash out' for martin or a 'semi cash out' for Joshua

Firstly no ridiculous mentions of roids in the thread please

Tip my hat to Martin, for taking on AJ this is the type of matchup we want to see AJ in. We know he's still raw but we wanna see that line treaded between gaining experience and aeeing competative fights

Do you think Martin's motivation maybe that he feels he wont hold the title for long and AJ is the most accessible cash cow in the divsion right now? AJ made 6 million of fighting whyte. Ill pretty much buy any Aj ppv and im not alone. Martin will make some nice paper.

Or do you think on the flip side - The whyte fight worried the matchroom and they wanna get AJ the easiest shot at a world title (still semi dangerous) that will be available for 3 years in order to milk it then have a big cash out end of the year ( feed him to haye, wilder, fury) big wembley fight in case AJ dpesnt have the skills to reign and take on the two real world champs

Or maybe its just great match making two up and comers. I cant wait for it

    I don't think it's a cash out at all.

Thats the third option. If so fair play for AJ and Martin putting what they respectively have on the line.

    I cant wait

    Yes.

Martin is probably looking at the IBF top 15, and doesn't fancy his chances v any of them. Therefore he took the biggest payday. :deal

It's a good fight for both men. This is the type of match up boxing should be based around. Fights that are genuine contests.

There's no "cash out". On Martin's part taking the biggest payday offered is not the same as being cashed out. ON Joshua's part, taking on a genuine top 10 fighter is not a cash out.

The only thing that sours it is the ridiculous "world title" tag on it.
The British public will be fooled into believing Joshua is the world champion if he wins this fight.

    I think it's a bit of both.

On the one hand, Martin won't make that money against another HW and he knows he's in for a short reign anyway, so he's making the most of it.

On the other hand, The only way to keep AJ going as a PPV star is to make big fights, and that wasn't going to happen fighting for a euro belt.

    Good question. :good

  8. How can it be a cash out fight for Joshua? He is 15-0, with 15 knockouts, is already a PPV fighter and sells out arenas having not even gone past the British title level. If anything they could continue to milk him dry by facing Euro level fighters, instead they've identified a great chance to win a title and gone for it.

Idiotic to even begin to think it might be a cash out by him.

Charles Martin is not the world champion. Fury is.
I flattered him to call Martin a genuine top 10 fighter. That's debatable.

  10. Does that mean Carl Frampton isn't a world champ? Pre Rigo being stripped of course.

That's not a "cash out" though. Just a genuine meaningful fight with both fighters taking some risk to help their careers along.

Obviously genuine meaningful contests have become so unusual in the world of hyped British fighters that people are getting confused when they see one made.

I'm not saying this will be a good fight, or even a competitive one. I don't know. But on paper it makes sense.

I don't know, I haven't followed that division. I doubt it though. Just a Brit with a belt in a minor division.
As I understand it Rigo was champion, wasn't he ?

I think it's a blatant cash out by Martin's handlers but not Charles Martin himself, he probably genuinely believes he will win this fight & he will need to take that confidence into the ring with him otherwise he won't get past the 3rd round.

It's simply good maneuvering by Joshua's people. They see a Martin fight as the least line of resistance to a belt.
The only other options are Fury and Wilder which at this stage are both high risk.
He'll win the belt defend against a couple of tomato cans convincing the great British public that he's world champion, then see what the lie of the land is in a year or 18 months time regarding Wilder and Fury.
