Yeah, being a slow (of foot and punch), easy to hit plodder who struggles cutting off the ring and depends on volume punching is just what has defeated Floyd in the past.

    :-(

Not quite. Baldomir was short and stubby, Margarito was tall and long. Both could take a shot albeit Margarito's was better since his was tested against world class opposition. Margarito could utilize that style better and more effective since he had the physical leverage to impose himself for 12 rounds hard. The main difference is punch. Margarito was a far bigger puncher even if it was later suggested he was cheating. Just cause they fight similarly doesn't mean they are equally effective with a similar style

    Bull****.

As of when Mayweather fought Baldomir (November of 2006), Tata had the much better 147lb resume than Tony.

    Compare their best ten results:

Baldomir got off to an ugly career start but as of November of 2006 came in 2-0 (2) over previously undefeated Euro level Turkish-German slugger Alpaslan Agüzüm, 1-0-1 over previously undefeated Turkish-Danish Olympian and Euro level Hasan Al (who did hold a victory over a sliding Meldrick Taylor in the pros), draw with undefeated J.L. Cruz with additional victories over previously undefeated Joshua Clottey, previously undefeated Frank Olsen, legit world contender Miki Rodriguez, Zab Judah whilst unified welterweight champion and still in his prime (tail end of it anyway), and Arturo Gatti (past it and damaged by the Ward trilogy and Mayweather/DLH beatings, and not a true welterweight - but coming off a domination and TKO of 37-0 Damgaard in his 147lb debut and had entered his 2nd-to-last fight the reigning WBC 140lb champion)

Margarito got off to no less ugly a start, losing 3 of his first 12 (Baldomir lost 3 of his first 18...) before compiling a few decent outings going 2-0 over Danny Perez (the first a SD, with Margarito getting dropped), stoppages of green Martinez, fringe contender David Kamau (already having lost to all his best opponents in DLH, JCC, and Perez), badly shot former lightweight champ Frankie Randall, Tono Diaz, Six Heads Lewis, previously unbeaten Hercules Kyvelos, previously unbeaten Kermit Cintron, and Sebastian Andres Lujan.

    Review:

Baldomir's ten best names beaten or drawn with as of then are Al x2, Agüzüm x2, Olsen, Rodriguez, Cruz, Clottey, Gatti, and Judah.

Margarito's ten best names beaten as of then are Perez x2, Martinez, Kamau, Randall, Diaz, Lewis, Kyvelos, Cintron, and Lujan.

Far more proven? Best case scenario for Margarito there is a wash, ten for ten, since his back-end is probably stronger to offset Baldomir being more top-loaded. Baldomir has the best single W (Judah), by far. Hell, his 2nd best (Clottey) is better than Margarito's best (probably the overrated Cintron, given the circumstances of where Martinez & Randall - though greater all-time p4p than Cintron - were in their careers when they fought Margarito) at that point in time.

    Baldomir.

Give the lineal championship to Margarito, however, and swap out the still very lightly regarded WBO belt for Baldomir - and you absolutely would not see Mayweather choosing the latter.

Again - it wasn't a duck of Margarito. Baldomir might've been the easier target but more importantly he possessed what mattered and Margarito held a worthless trinket.

Mayweather didn't wave a magic wand and make Baldomir the lineal champ. He just lucked out that such an easily (for him, anyway, obviously not other world class guys like Judah or Clottey) beatable sitting duck for his style happened to hold that honor.

Had the lineal champ been Margarito, then we currently would be discussing who Mayweather did or didn't actually duck in 2006 when he "cherry picked that slow, plodding tailor-made bum Margarito". He would've "pulled a Baldomir" on Margarito had they fought.

Yeah I know what you're saying, but Floyd was scared of Margarito nonetheless.

Small fish huh??? Floyd was offered Margarito for $8 mil but said he couldn't fight him as he'd had 6 losses. So he then fights Baldomir for less $$$ & Baldomir had 9 losses. Don't come with the lineal champ BS either Floyd already claimed he wasn't interested in titles just $$$$$$$$$
The fact Tony made Cotto take & knee & QUIT!!!! after having the bejabbers beaten out of him had nothing to do with it did it ROFLMAO Plus Floyd soiled his pants when Margarito confronted him & his goons had wandered off. That is on video too ROFL

Margarito vs. Cotto I didn't occur until 2 years after Mayweather vs. Baldomir did. :blood

Also, there's a difference between the alphabet titles and the lineal championship. Plus, Mayweather always cared about one sanctioning org - the WBC. He said numerous times in various interviews over the years that he valued the green belt he used to covet when he watched boxing on TV in his childhood. Guess which major alphabet title Baldomir held when they fought, along with the lineal championship?

Baldomir could've had 20 losses on his record. Holding the WBC & lineal titles meant he was more in Mayweather's crosshairs than any WBO titlist. Margarito had 6 losses but nothing positive to offset them as reward. He was nobody. Being the WBO champ back then meant nothing.

Say what you want but you know as well as I do both Oscar & Floyd were scared to death to challenge Tony Margarito. Oscar picked little Manny Paquaio instead ROFLMAO Big Mistake Made my day to see cowardly Oscar humbled & embarrassed by little Manny. Floyd went with Baldy for less $$$$. Some champions huh????
