He doesn't rank anywhere to be honest, he should be judged when his career is almost at an end, there is too much of all this talk that fighters should be hall of famers etc etc
The hw division is pretty weak compared to different eras, and the best he has achieved so far is a life and death struggle with a faded wlad, personally I see Wilder koing him, once tagged and rocked it will be a furious onslaught and finished quickly.

Difficult to rank someone that high who just doesnt have the competiton.

Just like wlad, how high does he rank on ATG lists? not that high because he mostly fought bums

Based on Joseph Parker, a decrepit Klitschko and a group largely resigned to obscurity?

I guess that passes for ATG these days.

Not "IF", but when he knocks Wilder out! Joshua is the best heavyweight at this time until Fury comes back, then Fury will take over if he trains hard and stays in shape, no drugs................

Well Tyson did great for a few years.. If Hearns retired after Duran he might have been seen as great, but that was 4 years after he wont the title. I think 4 years and going through weight adjustments and coming back to win. Not saying a guy has to lose to be great, but sometimes it helps.

Good win, but like others have already stated it's a weak era in heavyweight boxing.

Every era is a “weak era” in HW Boxing according to those who live through it or those who buy this manufactured Ali hype tripe.

80s, 90s, 00s, 10s all weak eras according to some out there.

According to some dolts the only strong era was when Ali fought. No it wasn’t folks. The 60s and 70s were not stronger eras than the 80s, 90s, 00s or 10s.

This rates as a strong part of the 10s. Especially if Wilder, AJ and Fury face each other in the next 2 years.

AJs legacy is not built based on going life and death with a 40 year old Wlad. It’s based on beating Parker. It’s then built on facing Wilder, Fury, Gassiev or Usyk.

Those are all big fights and add to his legacy. If he fights those kinds of names he can start to push himself towards greats of recent eras like Wlad Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko and Lennox Lewis.

If he decides to be a belt holder and face lower level opposition then he will not make a big name for himself. I am sure Hearn is wanting to protect his cash cow and wants to avoid many of the tougher legacy defining fights.

why would anyone take the word of a boxrec warrior over someone who, as you say, lived through it, when speaking about relative strength of different eras?
i lived through all those eras you mentioned, and i think the 90s was a very strong era, one in which i dont think aj would have been very successful in.

Bigger question is Where is AJ now? Is he still hiding from Wilder?

Not that much higher being that

    A. It's a foregone conclusion that he wins

    And

    B. Who the hell has Wilder beat for it to be worth bothering about

Yes but you will know as well as me, as someone who lived through the 90s era, that everyone at the time was calling it a terrible era and was desperate for Tyson to return to rescue it.

It’s only now in hindsight we see it was a strong era.

So whenever anyone says the current era is terrible, this always comes to mind.

No one knows how well AJ would do in the 90s. His only legacy defining wins are a 40 year old Wlad and Parker. We don’t have enough information yet to place him somewhere provisionally.
