Seriously, how many people love Pavlik so much because he's white and you are also?

This is pretty stupid. These fighters are legit champions, not hopes of any color.

i'm mexican and i'm a Pavlik fan without a doubt. As someone said earlier, he goes into fights and ends them the way the fans of the sport want to see. Who wants to see the undisputed middleweight championship match that goes for 12 boring and uninspired rounds. Kelly has all the makings of becoming a BIG star in America and it has nothing to do with skin color. If Miranda had KTFO Pavlik and done the same to Taylor, he too would be ready for megastardom. However, Pavlik is also humble and well spoken in a DLH sort of way and so he can become as big as he wants, provided that he continues to win, especially in impressive fashion.

How many posters here hate him because he is white? Based on many posters comments it seems we have many here on ESB who cant handle him being a young white champ in one of boxings most important divisions.

You get too sensitive when i use the word hope. I never said they werent the real deal. When you have a sport in America thats usually dominated by blacks and latinos and a white guy comes around and is actually legit, he will ineveitably (xcuse spelling) get a little overhyped bcuz they dont come around very often. I probably shouldve of left off Tszyu, Calzaghe, and Wlad bcuz i dont think most white Americans go crazy over those guys because theyre not from here and wont get the same kind of affection a American can get. Its sad but true. Anybody that was on this site when Pavlik won saw people speculate on him beating everybody from Hopkins to prime Hagler. If Pavlik was from France or something it wouldnt of been as big of a story and thats where the label "hope" comes from.

I dont see how using the word hope doesnt mean they are not the real deal. The expression denotes a fighter who is hyped beyond his potential. The guys you listed are champions, period. Now guys like Mesi I agree with, but damm your talking about guys on the top.

probably a lot less people than those who hate on pavlik, klitschko, calzaghe, hatton, kessler, povetkin, sturm, abraham, etc. because they are white

    Bingo!

Most threads which have hime facing RJJ are created by haters as a way to devalue what he did Saturday night.

Well, Whatster ( The_what )...I am white, and I always cheer for the Latinos...Black vs White?? In this case I always go for the underdog..
But it doesn't mean I bet that way...and the fact that the majority of Latins/Hispanics/ are white...has nothing to do with me liking them.

True, i do call Mesi, Gatti, and Spadafora hypes bcuz thats what they are. I remember when Maxboxing reviewed the Mesi vs Williamson fight, the editor of the site said he saw a lot of Neo nazi types rooting Mesi on. Mesi had NO chance as a real contender and was a great white hype for a lot of bigots. Fans of Spadafora and Gatti arent racists to my knowledge but whenever the topic of Mayweather fighting them, people hoped they they could shut Boy Floyds mouth in the ring even though they had NO chance and Spaddy and Gatti both have criminal records! Pavlik is the real deal but when people rush into his jockstrap and say he can beat everybody from Hops to Hagler to Jones a lot of that is based on people being a little too overjoyed that an American white, not a Euro white, is actually good.

For those of you thinking that this was some racist thread, it's not. I'm not black or white. I just think that some white people are really happy about the fact that an American, white person has really made the big stage and that might cause some to get overly excited. Hey, if my own race did the same, i would get excited also. No big deal. It's natural for people of the same race to root for each other.

I don't love Pavlik but I do respect him as a fighter. I try not to be biased for any fighter, I got much respect for Pavlik after he beat my favorite fighter Miranda.

Asian, and I was a big fan of another youngstown legend named Ray Mancini. I like Pavlik, he has heart, skill, will, and power. Just needs Defense.

Its good to have variety at the top of any sport!

I didnt see people criticizing flips when Manny became champion. Everyone said, good, let them have their champ.

Nobody criticizes Ricans for loving Tito or now Cotto.

Nobody criticizes Mexican fans for loving Barrera, Morales, or the Marquez brothers because they are Mexicans.

But now its a crime to be white and like Pavlik if he is an American white and has made it to the top. There are very few American white boxers at the top of the game, so whats the difference, if I may ask?

My guess is that the people who criticize white people for liking a white champ are the same people who just dislike him because he is white. :good

When did i say it was a crime to be white and love Pavlik? I just think that race does play a part with some people being overly optimistic about the guy. Don't get me wrong, he proved himself against Taylor.
